Sell if we get the money/near to the money we paid and reinvest in Dan Bentley from Southend

When the policy/ethos of the club is gearing towards youth, it seems totally out of context to then keep a 35 yr old as your No.1 when there is a young starlet apparently waiting in the wings. Green has done nothing wrong IMO and if Green does start as No.1 then he(Mc Carthy) is obviously not as highly rated as we thought...
Will be interesting to see what happens with this

Such a shame if true. 3.5 mill such a low release clause as well.

McCarthy will be a top keeper just needs some time and a run of games. Rate green so highly but he's 35 now and we have such a excellent keeper on our hands in McCarthy. Seems like we won't have much of a say.

This 6m banded around that we spent on him better be a load of rubbish.

3.5 mil is a load of rubbish, definitely not the case or someone would have punted on him.

Obviously common sense prevails here. There is no way we paid £6 mill for him and then installed a £3.5 mill release clause. I reckon we paid a lot less with add ons that involved staying up or him playing for england etc. Probably around £2 - 3 mill. But even if the release clause is correct (which im very sceptical of) and palace offered £3 mill, im fairly sure they would come back with an extra 500k to secure it.

Good keepers can play at a top level until their late 30's early 40's, so I am happy if we stick with Green if that's what we decide to do. Nothing against McCarthy but I wasn't overly impressed with him when he got his chance last year although to be fair he didn't get that many chances.

It's a no brainer isn't it hove. It's not like they are world away from affording him. Looks like McCarthy is off.

Green still a fantastic keeper to have though, just a shame as McCarthy long term it just made sense to keep him. However I don't know how long term our thinking would of been with McCarthy with such a low release clause if true.

I have no doubt the release clause is legit, at £3.5m we would still make a profit too.

Only outcome I can see here is Palace stumping up the remaining 500k and getting him while we find someone us.

Saw Daniel Bentley mentioned above and I would back that, having seen him a lot for Southend last season I honestly think he has a lot of potential

Out of interest, what's this "he will be a top keeper" statement based on? Not knocking it, I've barely seen him play, but every time he has played for us (bar Liverpool at home) he has looked well ropey.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

From reports and coaches he has undoubted talent between the sticks. In his debut for us, he played a blinder

I'd take 3m for him tomorrow Dave mc recons a year left on his contract hasn't impressed , I read somewhere after we signed him it wasn't anything like 5m , you'll get enough time out of Green in this league to find another Keeper

Wonder if McCarthy regrets choosing us over Liverpool now?

Probably came as a surprise to most that Green, in general played ever so well throughout the season, (Chelsea goal and his general kicking aside), whereas with some of the performances Mignolet put in, he would no doubt have played more games for them than he did for us.

Green has got at least three more years as a top keeper left, let mccarthy go, hes pony anyway. I will even say he will never be a regular top flight keeper.
