  • TF, Les & Ramsey have said all the right things so far but I won't congratulate them until they deliver. So far we've been relegated with a whimper and signed some cheap, young players from lesser clubs.

Hope it goes well but it;s still early days. I want TF & co. to succeed but if we're honest they've been about as bad as any board I can remember anywhere...

Can't disagree with much of that, to be fair.

Until the end of last season, there's not been much that they have done well at all.

But there is a vast difference between putting it like that and some of the other nonsense I've seen posted.

But it's all ok because the under 21s have gone to Italy and the owners haven't walked away
          agreed,
But ,there are positives this close season ,ie not having our pants pulled down over every transfer , Tony seems to have stfu ,appointing Les , ticket prices etc
These things are expected though ,in a well run club ,unfortunately weve come to expect the opposite ,so although i`m thankful we seem to have turned a corner , its well overdue.........weve put up with years of embarrassment under the current regime ....
Now ,give me attacking ,exciting football ........please

          • Some are congratulating TF for turning the corner, which implies some improvement. The way I see it is we haven't turned the corner, what TF has done was slam the brakes on, due to the inevitable impending car crash we were facing in January.
The reason we got Ramsey and didn't spend in January was down to us being skint and the threats of fines and sanctions, it was forced upon us.
Clearly investors like Amit who are now all but quiet on QPR have reined in the spending and most likely told TF to behave. If TF had £100m kicking around in January, I would strongly suspect he would again have gambled it all on someone like Roger Miller and enticed him out of retirement to save us.
The fact is like Greece we are skint and austerity has been forced upon us by others.
Talk now of youth system, controlling our finances etc is a direct result of the mess we find ourselves in, what else could TF have done. If we were still premiership, Sam Allardyce would have been parachuted in and Carroll would be up front.

I totally agree Ramsey is a good fit for us, we are getting rid of wasters, ST prices have come down but my gold is still £100 dearer than my palace mates ST. However this idea that this is some master plan that should be applauded doesn't do it it for me. We are where we are because of circumstances, nothing else and we shouldn't kid ourselves.

              • As a too common a trend on here.. people seem to be forgetting the actual point of an opening post.

I am commending Les, Chris, the board etc, On the job that has been done so far in the off-season. There is nothing wrong with doing that after the sh1te of the last few seasons. We are at least getting an identity back.

Im not jumping to conclusions saying its all going to be rosey in the garden this season, before a competitive ball has been kicked but as usual i see it has been taken that way by a select few.

I think sensible fans will look at this as a transitional period... A building period, where finishing in the league isnt as important as it has been the last few seasons.

People haven't clocked on yet that it is actually legitimately okay to be pleased that things are being done right. If we win the bl00dy premier league in the next 5 years, some fans here will have you think that the current board should have done this a long time ago.

It's as clear as day your complimenting the changes that les and Ramsey have installed. This doesn't mean we are guaranteed success on the pitch. Your just pointing out a lot of positive steps being made behind the scenes.

Shame people are just looking for any excuse to have a pop.

                    • Taking the u21's out there is a huge step. Its about fostering the same playing mentality and philosophy at the club at all levels. Bit like how Spanish youth teams ALL play in the same style as the senior team so if anyone makes the step up, they can slot straight in.

I agree with you. Everyone seems to be labouring under the delusion that we absolutely have to be promoted at the first attempt again. I ask them why? What is the need to get promoted again so soon? Would much rather stay in the Championship a few seasons and strengthen slowly. The last time we went straight up worked out really really well for us didnt it?
The board and management are building a team that can survive in the Championship, they made this very clear several times. I think they have done a good job so far this pre season. The same people moaning that we aren't signing the right players even though they would cost us a bomb in fees and wages, are the same people that moaned that we were paying exorbitant fees and wages the last few seasons. You cannot have your cake and eat it, I'm afraid.

Not only building a team in the Champ... But building and laying foundations for a decent team in the Prem, next time around! So that we dont just come straight back down!

Exactly. Like I said, going straight back up worked so well last time didn't it? This is exactly what everyone wanted, stop signing overpaid/aging mercenaries and start signing younger players with more potential. Thats exactly what we have done and people still moan.

Agree with this. I want us to go up again for the joy of promotion and why buy a season ticket if I don't want us to win every week. But at the same time I don't expect to and I personally feel we will be mid table and be happy with that as well. As long as we aren't flirting with relegation (I don't believe we will be) then I'm pleased we have got rid of the old boys and hopefully building a team for the future.

That's my opinion and some will agree and many will disagree I imagine.
