Only take 10m if we are going to make the team stronger and bring in 3 new players, if not keep him

Will be genuinely gutted if he goes but at 10 mill the club have got the absolute best deal they can. When it comes to our recruitment I'm of the philosophy we will spend sensibly.

Imo we get 10 mill and replace him with someone like Byrne at 2/3 mill and bank the rest. Good business imo.
Only if Byrne or whoever, is as productive as Phillips.

Phillips has been good in most of his appearances during Nov 13 - Jan 2014 (once he recovered from his broken arm and before his ankle injury), scoring and assists. Also under Ramsey last season (Redkrapp messed him around either with cameo appearances, playing him out of position or giving him defensive duties before attacking ones (usually in away games where keeping the score down seemed to be the priority objective).

I have my doubts over whether Byrne would be adequate, so for me the answer is no.

I agree but really think we should be trying to hang on to some of our better players. The trouble with buying lots of Championship players is that if (big if, I know) we do go back up, we don't want to have to replace the entire team again....
        This.

We now know that Phillips is more than a capable performer in the Premiership, so replacing him with a Championship player (i.e. Mackie or even a gamble on Byrne) could mean shelling out £10m or more to replace them in the event on winning promotion.

He's a very average player. I'd be happy to just recoup our outlay of £5 million. If he stayed, his track record suggests he'll go right off the boil and get injured for long spells next season. Only caveat I'd make is none of us know what goes on behind the scenes or in their personal lives and maybe there were issues affecting him? If he's on an even keel maybe he's worth hanging onto.

If we sell we'll prob buy a cheaper, not as good player and the rest of the money will not be reinvested. So - keep, at least til Jan.

                ?? What personal issues?

Load of tosh. Bloke was injured then in and out of the side by Leatherface, then played out of position. When finally given a run of games in his best position he looked every inch a Prem player.

it could be possible given that the club have made 22 mil losses this year. But would they really accept only 5 mil? Especially after the season he has had.

                      Your having a laugh mate?

Phillips is a very talented player. He proved that the end of last season which was the first time he had had a clear run in our team after injuries and that muppet Harry messing him around.

                      What a joke comment.

                        I agree.
I have never understood the negative comments about Phillips. He did well at Wycombe got signed by Blackpool, went on to play well in the Premiership scoring and creating goals for DJ Campbell. He then had a good season with them in the Championship before hejoined QPR. After recovering from his broken arm he had a good spell in the side before getting injured.
Redkrapp messed him about last season so no one should judge him on that.

Spot on mate - really winds me up how other people don't see exactly what you just said.

Almost feels like some people say things on here just to get a rise or they have literately based their assessments on 2 or 3 performances of Phillips coming back from injury or when Harry decided he was a striker.

Worth keeping for the Championship imo. Can spearhead our promotion push.

However 10M is good money for him, sadly I've no faith in our ability to replace him adequately.

Are we a football club first and a business second or the other way around?

If we are a football club first then our priority has to be winning football matches and you can't do that by selling off your best players. If you need the money to balance the books then fine, but if you are selling your best players just to turn a profit for the sake of it, that is putting business before football.

Bottom line: we have a better chance at promotion with Phillips than without him but with £10m instead.
