Lets face it, the only players who stay with relegated clubs are those that can't get a transfer to the Prem. If West Brom offer 5m, we will prob say no. If West Brom then come back with 7m, we are sure to say yes. Its the way it goes.

Could look at it the other way and point out that we gave him a shot to impress in the top flight and he was part of the team that went down and should be man enough to do the decent thing and have a crack at getting as back up. As I said in my earlier post, he is at a stage of his career where 1 season in the Championship won't massively harm him. If West Brom struggle next season he could be in the same boat again in a years time.

I know it doesn't always work like that but I don't see it as foregone conclusion that he will leave this summer. I certainly think that we shouldn't be letting him leave unless the deal is financially beneficial for us!

I'd take £5 mil now..... We'll never get anything like that for him after this window.

5m is a drop in the ocean if he is the difference between getting promoted or staying in the Champonship next season!

Can see us accepting 7 mill as that is pretty fair for a winger in the championship.

7M for Phillips but should keep if we can
7-8M for Fer - scored about 7 goals from midfield on a horrible team while missing 2 months
12-13M Austin - worth more but can't see us getting it
2-3M Green - he'll move before the season starts

throw in Sterling and we are over 30M. Already spent the Futch money so put another 10-12M into transfers in and the rest to settle debt and FFP. Team would have improved finances by 50+M with wages/transfers, would hopefully have a promotion pushing squad and not touched the TV money.

if we paid 5m and after the 'half season' he's had in regard to assists and he still has 2 years to run. He's closer to 10m than 5m. especially with increase in tv revenues. We dont even have to sell him this window. would be an asset to us on the right too.

That's all v well alarmo but you're selling a quality player with end product and replacing him with run it into the corner mackie
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

I agree with the OP. I absolutely want us to hang on to Phillips and so far as I can tell there is no reason for us to sell him. If anybody wants him they will have to pay us well over the odds.

I also think he would be well advised to stay with us. He was bang average under HR but has blossomed under Ramsey. Ramsey has been getting the best out of him and he should not take it for granted that the next manager will be able to do the same. Another season absolutely killing it in the Championship would be great for him and great for us.

Pretty much every case I can think of when a fee has been over inflated has been when a player has time to run on his contract and the club are under no pressure to sell. 77m quid for Bale, 35m for Andy Carroll, 60m for Angel Di Maria, 50m for Torres are all examples of this.

Personally I don't think we are under any pressure to sell Phillips, he has 2 years to run on his deal, he's not established in the Prem to the point where a season in the Championship would be impossible and he seems like a decent lad with his head screwed on. Hopefully he'll knuckle down and play in the Championship if that is what's required.

With all the above in mind, I don't see why we should let him go for less than 8 or 9m. We see unproven foreign imports coming in for a lot more and often not coping in the Premier League. Matty has proved he can do it there, we should be holding on for a decent increase on the 4 or 5m that we paid for him!

This and his international ambitions for Scotland will not be damaged by playing in the Championship, as they selected Mackie and Anya amongst others from outside the top flight.

i also think selling him would be a huge mistake as he can make a big difference to the team. Furthermore £5M is an insult. Double that and maybe the club can consider their offer.

I for one wouldnt sell him at all.he can score and create goals. If as seems likely Austin is sold, he should be replaced and Phillips can set up goals for him.
QPR wont find another winger as good as him for £4m without a proper scouting process.

                          Could be good news

West Brom just signed James McClean from Wigan for £1.5million who is also a winger.
Wonder if they have decided him instead of Phillips.

######, I really don't want to lose Phillips as he will make a big asset next season for us if we keep hold.

8 million and I'd do a deal. Could probably get 2 very decent players for that amount. Andre Gray and Tarkowski from the bees.
