If I was DOF i'd say if your not sorted by first week of july your going nowhere
This is my thoughts in regards to signing a contract. If he was intent on not doing us a disservice why can't he sign a contract with a favourable release clause. Then he gets a move if a team stumps up and gives us more bargaining power.

Really? Ings had pretty much the same opportunity last season at Burnley that Charlie had with us and pretty much any way you care to look at it, Charlie was better - in particular, where it counts for a striker: goals scored.

If Ings is better than Charlie he has yet to prove it.

I can see your thinking Arts but realistically what we've stated as our fee (£20m) is the maximum we'll ever get for him in the near future imho. He's a scorer but weak outside the box & £20m is a good price. What could we put in as a buy out clause that would improve the deal financially?

I think we've set our stall out firmly and fairly & if we get anything from £15m upwards we'd of done exceptionally well on a player we payed just over £4m for & got us promoted.

The simple answer is he's not overly bothered about us and wanted his exit to be as easy as possible. Why tie himself down and show loyalty to a club he has been with for only 2 seasons? He will get higher wages + bigger signing on fee if the buying club doesn't have to pay a big fee. He knows this, his agent definitely knows this.

That's my point of view. Some people seem to think he has our best interests at heart

This is why I feel he will stay, as he will be able to move next summer and have a large chunk of 10-15m in signing on fee and bigger wages, and what better incentive to get that by being top scorer in the Championship, aren't Swansea offering. 11m for Deeney? and haven't they just given free agent Ayew a 5m signing on fee to keep his wages on par with the rest of their squad as they did with another free agent Gomis, who they were quoted 11m for in the preceding transfer windows, before getting him for diddly squat.
Don't budge Les 20-25m or you can go for free next summer and we'll have 120m to spend on his replacement.

Have to admit I dont think him leaving is a formality and I muted few weeks back that his agent and him must be thinking of the windfall if they sit season out at QPR and get huge signing on fee next season. Depends what the motivation is for them money or playing top flight footie

20-25m? Fantasy land I am afraid. Clubs seem exceptionally reluctant to bid 15m. Plus your assumption about going up is a big risk. Older fans will remember we went for this sh*t or bust approach when we went down in the nineties - spend lots of money on Mike Sheron, John Spencer et al - still didn't go back up. No guarantee in football, and then it took us 15 years to recover.

Stainrod, I remember "I am the ****** man Johnny Spencer well, the last time since Les and before Charlie that I felt we were going to score in every game he started, shame he lost interest in his second season, I still remember that perfect hat-trick against Barnsley when he scored from an impossible angle and a Barnsley fan had his arms out as in you'll never score from there, moments later he had his head in his hands, brilliant!!!
I'm not saying we'll get 20m for Charlie, just that anything less I'd rather lose him for nothing as we wouldn't be able to get anyone half as good for 10-15m, thus increasing our chances of promotion.
