  • Means nothing whatsoever in this case mate! Charlie is gone, he doesn't want to play for qpr anymore and he won't ! You just can't keep players who want out, especially proven goalscorers. Thats a release clause in itself

Charlie doesn't, but giving a figure and a deadline of Sunday, would in effect have created on, along with a time frame.

If it wasn't met, then he stays and we prepare for the new season with him and finish with another promotion.
I hear what you are saying but Kevin is right imho, no buy out clause makes no significant difference. Us being relegated and needing the money and Charlie clearly wanting to go - he is sure to go, but prob not till shortly before the season kicks off when whoever really wants him can see how cheaply they can get him.

          • I know. It's only a bit of fun. Tell me this now. Why have a release clause if it makes no difference?

I agree with both you and Kev in as much as I think Charlie wanted out once relegatin was confirmed. And I am in no way blaming him or saying he should want to stay.

My point is simply that if the club have accepted that he is going, despite wanting him to stay, the current situation with him being under contract allows for us to dictate terms, regardless of who it is with. In other words, "OK Charlie, we won't stand in your way, but in fairness to our future planning, it will require £15m plus by 30th of June and you go with our best wishes. If other clubs don't want you enough to pay a very reasonable fee and are in no hurry to secure your signature, then you are staying".

Would you be in a hurry to leave an employer that appreciates you and wants you to remain, in favour of one that wants to hedge their bets in case something else turns up?

Well argued but just dont agree. Difference between champ and prem is just so huge to these players there is no way any player with the choice will stay in the champ - as far as they are concerned you might almost be playing non league.

The proof why your seemingly very sensible suggestion wont fly is that the club wont even try it - they know he is going. Sad as it is - wd love him to stay or failing that go for crazy money.

So if I understand correctly, you disagree "because the club won't even try it" ?

You see if it were me in charge, it wouldn't be a case of "trying it". If I had made the decision that I would be prepared to let him go for a certain fee by a certain date or he stays, we would get the fee by a certain date, or he would stay.

I suppose I am just one of those people who are guilty of saying what they mean. Unusual in modern football, granted.

                          • Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world and they cant force a little upstart like sterling to stay (same with suarez), isnt that a guide to people to see no matter who you are, a contract means nothing if a player wants out.

You talk sense Brighton but gone are the days where contracts actually mean something. The club will cut it's losses and accept less. You can't keep a modern day footballer if he wants out because even Austin gave some no shows when we were clearly doomed. What you say however would of worked great in the 80's but like computers and technology please go with it or be left behind
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!
