I wonder if that price will alter if an offer comes in from abroad though. It's pretty well documented that our sell on clause rises to 25% if the club that he goes to aren't in England.

If Liverpool were clever they would start putting out rumours in the media that Real have made enquiries and are in talks etc. To try and up city's bid. At the moment its just city that are the only serious bidder so they won't offer too much because they know no one else is bidding and sterling wants out!

I think sterling is worth 40 mill all day in the current market. Rooney went for 27 mill over 10 years ago and sterling is going to be a class act.
Been hung out by Liverpool. The club and it's legion of legendary p,ayers are all bitter that he wants to play for a top four team regularly.
Liverpool are not the force they use to be and don't play champions league football enough. The lads had the best stats for a u21 anywhere in Europe last year and had the responsibility of being the leading player at Liverpool whilst Rodgers constantly changed his position.
The flack the lad gets is ridiculous. His vision is second to none, finishing needs to be improved but that will come.

Liverpool have whacked the price to 50 mill because of the sell on to us. Think they actually want 40 mill in the bank for the self.

This line of thinking is sorta like cutting your nose to spite your face. They are NOT gonna keep paying him his weekly salary and forgo a £40mil+ fee just so they can say "serves you right" in 2 years time and let him leave for nothing.

Rio Ferdinand: Liverpool's £50m valuation of Raheem Sterling is a joke

Rio Ferdinand has described Liverpool's £50m valuation of Raheem Sterling as a "joke", and said leading English players are massively overpriced.

Liverpool this week rejected a bid from Manchester City for Sterling worth around £40m. Despite the England winger's desire to leave Anfield, Liverpool are understood only to be prepared to sell him should they receive an offer close to £50m.

                        Rio can #### off.

We all know you pay a premium for English players. If Sterling improves at finishing he is worth 50 all day. He should already be England's #10 after impressing at the World Cup, it's just a shame Rooney is a bigger priority than the rest of the team.

Yeah, Rio seems to have a short memory. Plenty of folk said the same about him when he moved from West Ham to Leeds and again when he moved onto Man Utd. As ridiculous as it is, in modern day football 50m for a player of Sterlings age, ability and potential is probably the going rate!

Goal.com say (sceptical as they usually report other outlets rumours) that the third (and final) bid will be £40M rising to £45M with add ons.

The sell-on fee looks like it's 20% - so that would equal £8M up front

He's still 1/3 to join City this Summer
I should probably write something insightful here

Im sorry but there is no freaking way Sterling is worth anywhere near £40mill let alone 50. He has done absolutely nothing to warrant that fee.

Agree completely, but City are minted + need Home grown players and Liverpool don't need to sell.

He's 1/3 to be at City and 11/2 to be at Liverpool after the transfer window.

The sell-on clause may be the best thing Paladini ever did for us
