      • Just a general question, How much for a mid 20s England squad striker who will score 20 plus prem goals a season? £20-25m, so why are we only talking of £15 for Charlie, if contact length is the issue then I think we should hold him to it and take the risk.

I don't get this either. If this was a player from any other club the fee would be astronomical considering all the criteria. Young, English, scores, 18 in his maiden season, goals / games ratio second to none. Only blip is contract length.

For me £20m should be the absolute minimum. If he's only worth, 3-4m more than players like Rhodes and McCormack something's wrong.

Thing is all it takes is 1 bad tackle 1st game of the season a la faurlin, Charlie's out for the season and we've lost a goal scorer and £15m.

The onus is also on Charlie here to either sign a new contract with maybe a release clause, or to say he wants to leave.

            • There's also a dodgy shoulder and a knee that has previously failed medicals to take into account. We may just have to take what we can get or let him go for nothing next year.

You could say that about any player, let's be stubborn on and sell to the highest bidder

That's a point but only at Hull was it flagged up and that didn't materialise

If Newcastle want the pair we should hold out for £23m (£15m Austin & £8m Phillips). Not saying they are necessarily worth that amount (namely the latter) but they're contracted to us so if they want them they can stump up the cash.

It's easy this running a football club lark aint it
Alright Matty how's things ? Lots of press speculation about Charlie but what I don't get is they all including clubs are suggesting that they will get him for £10m, thought he would be worth at least £15m

                    • Read on Twitter this morning (although the journo has since removed this)12 mil plus Sam Gallagher on loan for a season from Saints. With Austin preferring a club down south.

Because we got relegated. Clubs know we have to offload our higher paid players, and Austin being our best striker will not want to play in the Championship when he has the chance to play Premier League again. If we had stayed up it's be different.

It's not up to him though Ginger, it's up to us. He is under contract for another year. And true professional that he is, he will honour it if asked to.

I definitely agree that £15m is not enough for Charlie. We should be asking £25m and take it from there. If we get offered £23m then maybe we take it.

                            • he,ll go soon as teams love a goal scorer . he,s banged them in for the bottom team so a lot of managers will take the punt on him . 12/15 mill nothing in this day and age in the PL . Why wouldn't he go to newcastle they'd love him up there and he knows it

No i get that mate, my point is the clubs offering are going to know he will want to play at the highest level, and the very fact we went down will mean they will get him at a lower price than if we had stayed up.
