And the difference between what we got and what they get will be us getting mugged off yet again.

We have been mugs in the transfer market and now everybody treats us like mugs, as evinced by the pitiful numbers being bandied around for Charlie. They assume that even if we posture up a little bit we will eventually revert to type and be mugs again. We need to eliminate that perception once and for all and this is our chance to do it - by not accepting one penny less than Charlie's realistic VALUE, which is substantially more than £15m! If we hang onto him and have him bang in goals for us for another season, that is fine. Perhaps his goals will fire us into the Premier League again and then we will be able to try to sign him again along with everybody else. But at the end of the day, of all the clubs who said they wanted him, and who may have been relegated or just missed out on Europe over next season for lack of a good goalscorer, ONLY ONE will get to sign him for nothing next summer. And ALL THE OTHERS will realize they missed an opportunity and, more importantly, they will realize that we can no longer be taken for mugs.

I know I'm fighting a lonely battle but I've just been reading Stephen Bungay's excellent book about the Battle of Britain so I'm inspired to soldier on against all odds. Kurt where are you?!
yep totally right not less than 20mil if that shite at west ham is worth 35mil

We paid £4m, £15m would be good.

Couldn't agree more Big Fella... even if he does go to those buffoons up at St James Park who'd begrudge him 50K adoring bar codes singing his name.. Good luck Charlie wherever you end up sahn....

And if he doesnt fire us into the premiership?...Then we lose him on a free, stuck in the championship and having to reinvest a substantial amount of money to replace him which doesnt really seem to fit in with our new financial prudence philosophy. On the other hand we accept a realistic transfer fee for him, accept that he has decided to move on (because he has 1 year left) and begin this new chapter with players that are going to be part of our future.

£15m, if it included a sell on clause, would be a good bit of business!

here's an interesting question I pose

why aren't Swansea City keen on Charlie? they've lost most of their goal threat selling Wilfred Bony, and while Bafetembi Gomis is decent at best, he's also clearly got a health concern as well. Backup.. Jonjo Shelvey? Marvin Emnes (who?)?
Everywhere you turn, people say they've got good foundations and the club is sound. Also you know they aren't short for cash, as the kitty should be well and full with the Bony money.

15mil for a proven premier league striker, scores 20 goals without the service. With the service of Gylfi Sigurrdson, Leon Britton, and Nathan Dyer, Charlie can easily do 20-25.
And it'd be good for Charlie, as he will get 90 minutes week in week out.

Because they dont rate him maybe. They play with 1 striker and maybe feel (like myself) that charlie struggles leading the line on his own due to lack of mobility, hold up, sheer physical presence and so he doesnt fit into their playing style. Also not sure if you can call charlie a "proven" prem goalscorer as he has only had 1 season in the prem. Lastly they are not renowned for spending massive money on players so that could also be a factor but i think its more to do with playing style

Use Newcastle as a stepping stone like Remy did

couldnt he play up front with Gomis or Shelvey though? agree with your point though that they are tight with the pursestrings

They dont play that way though and shelvey isnt a striker. They have their identity and philosophy and it works for them, they are not going to change it just for Charlie.

I think he will end up at Southampton.
Personally would do a cash deal with maybe 1 or 2 of there youngsters thrown in as well.

I'd argue Charlie gets MORE service from us then anyone else. Every corner, set piece, through ball, long ball. We aim for him.

I dont think he'd fit Swansea's pass and move style of play

With Chelsea sniffing around Charlie as they need home grown talent my hope is we will get much more money out of them than Newcastle.

Funny how both clubs seem to head towards us whenever they need a striker... Weird how they never wanted Zamora.

As I've said I have an absolute loathing of Newcastle and as mad as it sounds I'd rather he go to the scum than the toon. At least there can now be a proper bidding war for his services.
