Citeh paid £25m (rising to £28m) for Bony. How much better is he than Charlie? He had longer left on his contract but that shouldn't prevent us playing hardball.

Saints turned down 10m from Liverpool, both only with a year left.
We see other clubs in particular Saints and Swansea who we aspire to be, negotiate massive fees for average players, mainly to Liverpool.
As much as I want Charlie to get as far as he can in the game, I don't want it to be at our expense.
If we dig our heels in for 25m starting price and nobody's willing to cough up, we keep him, his goals give us a better chance of promotion and 100k+, he leaves on a free, with double the salary he'll get this summer as no fee to pay, everyone's a winner.
We buy at 10x the prices and sell under the value price.

I don't think the fact that people say we'll get £10-12M for him means they're undervaluing him, they're valuing the player based on the contract remaining, not what he's really worth.
Now had we stayed up and he repeated his goal scoring feat the following season I think an English striker would have got us £25-30M plus...

The bottom line is his goals are worth more to the club if they help fire us back up, plus we get another season from him.

Always going to be off, surely nobody actually expects him to be plying his trade in the Champiosnhip next season having banged in 18 PL goals in his debut season at that level & earnt an England call up (especially given the Euros are next summer)?!You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

He's playing for England now so the draw of that and perhaps playing regularly in the Premier League for a team like Southampton will be too much to turn down... Teams don't keep players that don't want to stay any more. Sometimes a chairman will play hard ball but ultimately players get their wish to leave granted....

Plus, there's always the possibility that his second season at the top level won't be as good as the first. Some players do struggle so you could argue that we get what we can for him now when his stock is highest..

Do love some of the valuations going around , he only has 1 season left on his contract and the club will not want him walking away on a free next season, so they have to work together on this, they cant over price him and end up with nothing, having said that, now he is an International player and if he was to start and score they could quite reasonably put a few $$ on his price tag. Me personally, i think top end you might get 15m for him, more likely 10/12m , even though its proven not a problem he still has that scar tissue after the op on his knee, that will be bought up in any negotiation, for the buying club and for insurance . I would rather whatever club he ends up at we go in for a player plus deal.
