As it was he lost his temper, again, and started lashing out violently at City players (Aguero from behind, a familiar tactic from Barton tbf), and had to be dragged from the pitch. That was the reason he ended up at Marseille and frozen out by the club, because he made it impossible to be selected for half a season. He wasn't mistreated by the club, he was lucky to still have a contract.

If he'd just walked off the pitch, it would have just been an injustice where he reacted badly but understandably perhaps to Tevez's elbow. Lots of players suffer similar, and don't then do what Barton did.

It weren't that much of a kick, was it. We'd have been better off with Joey that season we went down. Sending him to Siberia (OK Marseille....) was Hughesless cutting his nose off to spite his face.
Maybe we would have been better with Barton, but because of Joey's violent tantrum, we didn't have him. Not Hughes's fault, not the club's, Joey's fault.
