Feel torn about this player. Under DiCanio he was one of my favourite players, just being edged out of hero status by Buz. But now?

He makes some nice touches but he is being played as the second striker, not on the left, where we have Buz and Tarabt fighting for a starting birth (with Cook also coming back to fitness). If we are to judge him as a striker, is he upto the job? Yes he does some v nice link up play, but with Watson, Routledge and above all Buz as well as Tarabt when he is picked, is this the priority? Surely what we need is a scorer, not a creator?

For me, most things are going brilliantly at the moment. The few reservations I have are that with Stewart we miss the composure that Connolly or even Fitz bring at the back, plus Borrowdale is a 6 out of 10 sort of player rather than an 8 out of 10 Tommy Spurr player; and above all that we lack two brutish, fast, clinical strikers, one to start alongside Simpson and another to come off the bench like Harewood did to turn the match for Newcastle last night.

Pete, you now seem to be coming back round to this point of view too. Suppose all bets are off while takeover talk continues, but does anyone ITK think there is finally a recognition that we need strength up top to match the superb players we have elsewhere on the pitch?

It will be sad if Vine is eased out but at the moment if you were being ruthless - and that is what all successful football clubs must be - you wd have to say that he is the one attacking/ midfield player with a question mark hanging over him. Even Heskey scores some goals - so far (and OK its early days) Vine hasn't got any.

    Thoughts?
