How can you claim the stats indicate that Welbeck doesn't know how to get in goalscoring positions when most of those games he has been played out wide?

He moves with the ball so well at times but being played out of position doesn't help (Leroy Fer will tell you that)
His vision is one of his key elements to his game. Look at fellaini's goal against us as a key example of this.
I would say a more than half decent shot
His work rate has been outstanding his whole career, hence his captaincy role. Pirlo didn't really do him, considering they were playing completely separate positions. Different situations call for different players with regards to the champions league match.
His free kicks can be worldy's at times but very few players are really super consistent.
Leadership is brought about by him being captain and leading by example, look at their most recent match to attest to that.
- You can't cite a goal against one of the worst defences in the league as proof he's got great vision.
- Pirlo ran that Italy game playing deep on the right side of midfield. Absolutely no chances came down England's left side, where Rooney was playing. England only played a 2 of Henderson & Gerrard, meaning they were overrun in midfield - as the wide player it was Rooney's responsibility to drop back and tame Pirlo, which he completely failed to do. He is a tactical liability.
- You will never see Rooney dominate a match against top opposition again. Notice how Man Utd's worst form in decades has coincided with Rooney's best patch for years? He only ever does well at the expense of the team.
- His set pieces are more miss than hit.
- Bullying the small teams isn't good enough for the captain of the national team and supposedly the biggest club in the country, he has to do it against the big teams when it counts.
I'm not saying Rooney has no natural talent, but sadly he really has regressed as a player yet is undroppable due to corporate interests & his media profile. Ferguson set the stage for Moyes to sell him & make Kagawa Utd's #10 behind RvP, but Moyes didn't have the balls and now they're stuck with him on wages no club will ever match. The media will never turn on him though, at least not until the next poster boy of English football comes around (probably Kane).
Everyone says he's played out of position - why? Who is he being played out of position to accommodate?

If you wanted someone with those qualities, Mackie brought that. He has a similar shot quality as welbeck too. The difference is that mackie is older and didn't start out at a club like utd. Irrespective, welbeck is a better player than Mackie (by a long way) but i still don't think he is as good as some would suggest he is.

I'm saying that they play a similar style, you have literally listed everything that mackie was, and I did say That welbeck was clearly a number of levels above Mackie in quality. Irrespective, that doesn't win matches. Players like rooney and austin win you matches."What stats allow you to do is not take things at face value. But sure, ignore everything I said in the name of jokes. Ultimately, rooney is a top 50 in the world player year in, year out, welbeck is not and will never be."What stats allow you to do is not take things at face value. Does make you wonder how good/where he'd be had Austin spent pretty much 6 years at UTD with those players and manager/training staff around him, instead of grafting on building sites his whole life.... got to say reckon he'd be an England regular by now.SIR LESLIE FERDINAND!!
