What that suggests to me is that he is just a better classic striker than all of them.

If he can score in the prem for a team with no chance creation, imagine playing for a team with some remote level of creativity.

Kane was always going to be brought in, Sturridge is an important player. Rooney is holding the team back but he'll forever be forced into the side as he is the FA/Prem poster boy of this era. If anything Berahino deserves a call up.
Austin is too one dimensional for England at the moment. He's unlucky but for the first time in years we have some kind of depth in the ST/CF departments. He'll get a cap eventually though.

Then we may actually look half decent and creative. You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

I find any comparison with Rooney amazing - Rooney's consistency over the past ten or twelve years is outstanding and is a far more complete player even when his form dips, which it is entitled to occasionally. There might, just might, be a case to make with Welbeck but I couldn't see any top club swapping Welbeck for Charlie. We'll soon find out."What stats allow you to do is not take things at face value. Originally posted by nasser95 View PostYes I did, we are able to score because we have the talent. We are not creative and we all know that, but we get the ball in somehow most games. I'm saying for a relegation threatened side, we are ok with the attacking. Austin scores no matter what service he is given, but when the service is better, imagine how much he can do.

Sturridge should be our CF. Scoring goals in a shite team (Austin) doesn't make you a better striker, and there's nothing to say Charlie will step up to the next level. He'd get goals for Liverpool, Utd, Spurs etc. in the Premiership but he won't take them up a gear in Europe, which is what really matters for thiose clubs.Originally posted by Del View PostLaughable comment. He hasn't been forced to play out of position - he doesn't have the instinct or pace to play as an out and out striker any more, he doesn't have the brain to play as a no. 10 or creator, he doesnt have the engine to play out wide. He's the golden boy and will forever get love from the media, but he's been finished as an elite footballer for years.
As for the idea the team should be built around him - his link up play is horrible, he'll go for a pointless 50 yard pass or go for glory worth a wasteful long shot when he could play a team mate in. He doesn't have the quick feet needed to unlock good defences. He rarely, if ever, shows up in the big matches (I'm not talking games against Arsenal, Spurs or Hull, or international qualifiers, but knockout CL matches & international tournaments).
For PR & marketing reasons he is undroppable, and we will inevitably see him shoehorned into a CM role in the near future.
