Remember that Southampton had to go backwards to move forwards - first season of their new stadium was spend in league 1 if I recall?

I take your point, but I think they were in the Premiership when St Mary's was built. They then dropped down the divisions before climbing back up. The crucial factor was they never abandoned their youth set up unlike Chris Wrights QPR.

They have had a good youth policy for years, Nathan Dyer, Dexter Blackstock, Bradley Phillips, Kenwyne Jones, add to that the better known names, you can see they have been knocking them out for a while.
