When Barton is used correctly I think he's a decent player. And by that I mean, used as a hardworking, ball winning midfielder. The mistake we make is that we try and use him in this playmaker type role where he gets on the ball and tries to knock it around. I'm sorry but Joey isn't up to that job at this level, his vision and his range of passing simply aren't good enough!

And then there is the issue of his temperament, yesterday was ridiculous! Dunno why anyone is surprised though, if he can do it last game of the season away at City then he can do it at any time, anywhere. The guy clearly struggles with self control.

Shake hands and move on at the end of his contract for me, more hassle than he's worth!

7 consecutive yellows and now a completely avoidable red tells its own story - complete liability.

I could take his "attitude" problems....IF he was a decent player.
But the guy is a liability on the pitch, it`s got to the point where i`m amazed if he finds a teammate with a pass, even a 5 yard easy ball.
Think he`s better when he has to play for his place in the side, but what other options do we have?
Said it a few weeks ago but it could be worth trying Jr in the middle, would like to see his driving runs through the middle.
        Anyhow...LIABILITY.

          He's neither. He's just crap.

Blessing in disguise him being out. If glass man Sandro can drag himself off the treatment table Joey won't get a peep.

i wouldn't knock him for the 7 yellows as they were fouls whilst competing for the ball , but yesterday where was his head, i often want to chin people but don't its called self control

Bell-end of the highest order, give Greeno the captaincy and let him go in the summer.

No goals, no assists, zillion red and yellow cards. Loves himself. Liability.

I would. 7 consecutive yellows shows a gross lack of discipline, whether he is "competing for the ball" or not.

I have more faith in Diakite staying on the pitch than Barton.

Barton struggles with being the captain, he loses focus on his game and try's to fight everybody else's battles

Some of the reactions are a bit over the top imo.

                              100% this.
The mans a total liability, it was imperative to get a result on saturday, again he let his team mates and fans down and that result could prove costly at the end of the season. As a captain he should be above that kind of behaviour but once a bell end always a bell end in my book, get shot .

Some are but you have to consider his loss of control may cost us the point or two that makes the difference between getting relegated or surviving! I've generally been a supporter of his, he can be a solid force in the heart of the midfield if he doesn't try to do too much, this latest moment of madness has me not trusting him and hoping he doesn't have to play for us again!
