  • Maybe the worst-case scenario is the best-case scenario..

I'm not finding it hard to imagine us getting relegated this season. At the start of the season (like the majority on here), I had hope that we would be competitive enough to stay up, but now I think nearly all of us can see that Harry really is the wrong man for the job.

Many of us have felt that for long time. I don't know what kind of spell Harry has over Tony Fernandes, but if we do get relegated, that would be Harry gone and the monkey would be off Tony Fernandes back. There would of course be the potential of a massive fine, depending upon how good the lawyers TF employs are, but he won't be alone, since several other clubs are prepared to challenge the Football League over their ludicrous FFP rules.

There is of course even the threat of being refused entry to the League being bandied about by the FL, but this is a highly unlikely outcome.

But whatever happens, if we are relegated, and even if we have to pay a large fine, it gives TF an opportunity to go back to square one and plan for the future in a far more sustainable way than how he has approached it thus far. The big IF is whether he would, even facing this scenario, finally work out that the best way to run a club is with not with a spendthrift manager and a motley collection of over-paid and often unsuitable players.

Sure, even with a good manager, a properly managed and sustainable structure, from the youth teams through to the first team, we may not return immediately to the promised land of the premiership, but we would stand a much better chance of staying there, if and when we did. And I for one would not mind us playing back at a level which currently suits us best. I enjoyed our last Championship season far more than this Premiership season so far, and I think I would enjoy it even more next season knowing Harry is gone. And if we had a younger, progressive manager in place, QPR might become and exciting and enjoyable team to support again.

The problem TF faces if we get relegated is his dream of the 40,000 stadium and all that hangs on that. However the relocation involves more than just building a stadium - in fact that is, in a sense, the Trojan horse to allow our billionaire owners access to a property regeneration goldmine, with the stadium part of a huge scheme, that would see them recoup massive profits in the long-term. It would become much harder to justify the larger stadium if we were in a lower division, but not impossible. Maybe TF might even consider a more realistic size, 30,000 say, or even 25,000 (with potential to expand if needs be).

It's maybe a scary scenario, but it could also be the best thing for the club. Burn off the burden, pay the dues, and start with a clean slate. What do you think?

Wouldnt be the worse thing in the world if we get relegated but if done properly this time and a proper infrastructure put in place then we may well come back stronger. Trouble is i think this would take years which would be to the benefit of the club but not to the benefit of the board that want to get their hands on their recompense of millions of pounds of HS2 money. Can the board and shareholders be patient enough to build the club up from the foundations and run it properly like say a Southampton or even a Crystal Palace? no i dont think so. I think they will throw money at short term rubbish just to get us back in the premiership as soon as possible and then we will truly be back to square one.

You may well be right Vblock, and also they may just upsticks and leave. But even if that happened, QPR would still exist, we'd still have our team to support. Not such a bad scenario. I prefer realism to all this crazy expectation.

        Parachutte payments dont last forever.

Go down or stay up we will still have an absolutely enormous wage bill.

Your strategy might have been the best way to start but my hunch is the board are in too deep to go that way now.

Good post Hubble, how good would it be to clear the decks, and I mean everyone, and start afresh. New coaching, new players, better infrastructure. But I believe we have got ourselves in deep with money issues, TF needs EPL money, he will always be pushing for that, there is no patience. Nothing would please me more than to 'start all over' but I dong think that will happen.

They have invested a lot of money. To these guys anything outside the prem league doesnt exist. Think they will beg, steal or borrow to get back there. Only way i cd see your scenario is if this board lost interest, wrote off the debt and pretty well gave the club away at a knock down price to a small time investor. Even then not convinced. Perhaps due to our London location we are the kind of club that will always attract a chancer imho.

Very good post Hubble, I however don't hate the idea of our club starting again from bottom up. It's sometimes what's needed and think we do, reason being is that something at this club has been wrong for a very long time.

Over the years we have purchased some of the best players out there, as soon as they come this this club they become very average. This has been going on for far too long and maybe a new start could solve this issue?

The good thing is that if we stay or go down, they board are here to stay.

But a lot of people hated the idea of rebuilding when we went down last time and wanted an immediate return, at any price - be careful what you wish for. A lot of people hated the concept that loosing out on promotion might have benefitted the club - because in that scenario Harry would have gone. Going up last season was a double edged sword. Interesting that finally a few people are engaging with reality.

It is a shocking condemnation of Fernandes and the board that you only finally contemplate a stable model when meltdown is on the cards. It's annoys me because all of this has been so obvious to so many people for such a long time.

No one wants to go down but we've now had 2 shots at this level, if it don't work this time it maybe our best option?
