He did go on a long dry spell from the end of July (When our interest started) until the end of the season so clearly there is some skew in this. If he was interested in playing he probably could have gotten more.

This. Bradley Wright-Philips was top scorer in the MLS last season - 29 goals in 32 games. When the shitter of the WP brothers can bone the league, it is a pretty sad indictment of how bad it is. Defoe will be a decent addition, but don't expect goalscoring heroics.
