Ain't he got like two years left on this contract? There's shouldn't be any need to panic I hope.
That's the right time to sign him up again for another 4 years. If you leave it until there is one year left on his contract and the player wants to leave, their value in the transfer market is diminished (since the player then has to wait only one year to move on a free).
'Only a Ranger!' cried Gandalf. 'My dear Frodo, that is just what the Rangers are: the last remnant in the South of the great people, the Men of West London.' - Lord of the Rings, Book II, Chapter I - Many Meetings.
I know it's not good to leave contracts to run less than a year but just seems like we've started panicking about it all of a sudden because he's in form right now.
Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
And many more mistakes

spot on.
I said a few days ago in response to another thread about not selling him in January, that he should be offered a new deal.
He has maintained a goal every other game record at every professional level he has played at and QPR need to get him on a longer deal that is more closely reflected to his performances and gets them a better deal should they choose or need to cash in on Austin.
Hopefully he will sign a new deal, continue to improve and QPR stay up with him in the side for a few more seasons at least.
If CL football comes knocking - he'll be off somewhere else like a Fulham fan on away day. Make no mistake..... big b0ll0cks QPR contract or not.
He's still got a bit of a way to go though..... which is good for us. And if Caravan Carroll was worth £35 million..... then Charlie has the potential to be worth double that.

I understand what you are saying but I actually think that Austin is the type that would rather be at a club playing week in, week out than sit on the bench at a CL club like others have done in the past.
