This is far too strong.. I like Matty.. tons of ability, gets you off your seat when he is full of confidence and running at people.
He has looked a little bit like rabbit in headlights this season so far but I do think he will come good.. Hoilett should be ahead of him but I do like Matty.
He did score two in that friendly a week ago so I was surprised to see him struggle yesterday when he came on.

He just don't seem to have the ability or will or confidence to burst forwards or attack and opts to tippy-tappy about in poxy triangles or sideways patterns. Wish he'd just stay out wide, barrel down the wing and literally run-over and smash through full backs cos he's a bleeding big unit after all. It'd gee us all up and just get us on the front foot a bit more.
Have to agree. Didn't know Onuoha was injured so I was very confused why he even came on.
When he got the ball I expected him to go forward or do anything but he just stopped and stood there.
        Felt like playing with ten.

He is another headless English winger who is good at running in straight lines and not much else.

He hasn't really improved since he got here, but then who has? If we can't help our young players develop then these kind of transfers are not the way to go. Poorly spent transfer fee & wages, and another transfer where we've gone for the obvious candidate rather than a good one.

            its

its a complete mystery he did look fabulous before his injury,he was roasting defenders, now he looks completely lost when he comes on
the only thing i can think of is to give him a starting place away from home maybe at newcastle and hope he gets a goal

its no good playing him at home when hes completely bereft of confidence because he will get ripped to by the crowd

I dont think he's up to it. Which is a shame because he puts in the effort and has the ability, he just cant seem to do.it.

Never been good enough, amazing how everyone was begging him up after a couple of very average performances last season and those that questioned that got slatted. Will have real trouble move him on, very poor buy and will end up as another SWP oust staying for the money. Hope Im wrong but not holding my breath.

We've spent good money on him, I hope if given the chance he pays us back with some great performances.

Exactly... every other player has transformed so why can't he or Rio?

                        as

as a 15 year old schoolboy i was a winger and although fairly useless i knew how to beat my full back i could throw body swerves all over the place
i thought i knew every trick in the book but the way that matty ran at full backs was quite amazing
and i really believe he can regain his confidance
the problem he really seems to have is that having roasted his full back he is unable to cross the ball or get a shot onj target

The bloke has the potential to be a cracking winger. It's just that if said player is a "confidence player" - then they will have bi-polar tendencies on the pitch. Just look at Townsend for example.......

We'd be mad to pie him off.
