  • With a bit of work, do we have a squad capable of staying up?

When you look at the table the only positive at the moment for us is that other teams ain't really performing either.
When Barton comes back I think we will see a major improvement in Midfield.
I think Barton, Fer and Sandro will work well together.
We have a lot of options in Midfield now, and feel we have better than some other teams we will be battling against this season.

If we can get to a relatively good position in the table before January, we must go all out and sign a Goalscorer like Defoe and we have a chance in staying up.
Can't mess around in the Jan Window as we know Defoe will be available so needs to be snapped up before the window even opens.

I believe the answer is yes, but obviously a good striker would help us immensely. I'm just not convinced that Defoe won't be another blunder though. We need to work a bit harder to unearth less well known gems.

Defoe could be another blunder, as players suddenly turn cr*p when they sign on the dotted line for us.
But, with what is at stake in staying up you would hope that we sign Defoe and also scout from now till Jan for a player that's worth taking a gamble on.

Defoe got booed off the pitch in Toronto last night after missing a penalty and a couple of sitters, it was ugly! In fairness to him, it was his first start in almost 2 months, he's got 3 matches left in the MLS season!

Back to answer the OP, if we can stay in touch into the transfer window I think a couple of quality signings in the right positions would balance the squad nicely and make us stronger down the stretch!

I'm sorry to hear that Carl as I am a fan of JD but he is another ageing star with nothing left to prove and if we brought him in for one last pay day I fear he would go the same way as so many others before him. We need to bring in players with something to prove - those are the ones who will go out and compete for us week-in and week-out. And yes, it takes a bit of effort to find them.

What happens between now and the Jan window will determine whether it will even be worth trying to get Remy mk II in at all, we could be too far behind by then. We need to start plugging away at the gap and somehow stay in touch.

according to the experts the midfield can score lots of goals

but they aint at present so maybe they need a pay rise

or just buy young players who play like messi and falcao

                thats another option

i believe we do, only if we play attacking football and provide more crosses in for austin. all this going through the middle isnt going to do us any good we havent got the quality. last season the majority of goals were from in the box by crosses so why cant harry develop the crossing. we need to find a way of scoring which is regular we cant rely on set peices all the time!!

We have a squad that should be good enough to secure a mid-table finish, and showing that now.
That they are propping up the table as we approach mid-October, is disgraceful.
                      Blame lies with the manager.

I canīt believe people in here want to spoil the dressing room (again) by bringing in someone getting 90K a week
HR said when he came here that players with too high wages was the problem

We can reach 17th by the end of the season. Main thing is not to get cut-off from the other strugglers before the Jan window.

As for a striker, I agree with the earlier post. Doesn't really matter who comes in if we aren't getting the service into the box for a striker to feed off.

Just can't see where the goals are going to come from. austins really our only chance. but we play a game which doesn't suit him. If we put in cross after cross then he'd be getting a fair few goals. but most the time he gets the ball its back to goal and nobody running beyond him.
