Can you blame him? Look at the reception he's got. No wonder WATRBs has a reputation as the place for gullible kids and knuckledraggers.

Just wondering: was there much talk among fans over the summer that Redknapp should go? Or was everyone just enjoying the afterglow from the Wembley win?

I thought at the time that he'd have done himself and his reputation a lot of favours if he'd left - on a high, after all. I was amazed to read instead about him being offered a new contract, which he was going to sign when he had a minute. Did anything come of that either?
We couldn't possibly have fired him after getting us up, now could we?! He deserved his chance in the PL and we all hoped he would be up to it, even whilst harbouring serious doubts after the way we played last season. Obviously we can all now see that he is not up to it.

I think almost all of us were amazed at hearing about a new contract offer. What was the point of that now?! See how the season goes and give him a new one at the end of the season, if applicable. If not, fire him before then and only have to pay out the remainder of the year! Duh! Of course we would have had to take the risk that Real Madrid or Manchester United might have snatched him away from under our noses before we had his john hancock on the dotted line.

None of us know for certain, but I certainly think Harry would have been offered a new contract, and would have signed it faster than you could say "that pound note goes in my pocket", if he had been able to squeeze out a few more points and at least give the illusion that he might be able to keep us up.

We definitely could have fired him. The fact we scored in the last minute at Wembley didn't retrospectively make everything he did (or didn't) do for the previous nine months any better.

However I can see there would have been a lot of unhappy fans if we'd given him the boot. Not that the fans are too happy these days anyway!

In all the recent Harry interviews when asked about signing a new contract he's always seamed very laid back about it, very confident about signing it with comments like "yeah ill sign it"..." "contracts their we've just not got around to doing it"..... Be interesting to see how he reacts next time he's asked and what kind of answer he gives....

Anyone who seriously thinks we'll stay up with Harry anywhere near LR is delusional. Delusional as in rejecting the evidence of your own eyes.

We actually have a decent set of players now...ok our games of late haven't exactly proved this but we do imo. Regardless of whether he stays or goes, he's done a good job of getting us back up to the prem first time trying and building a decent team. Gotta be grateful for that imo.
You can have the 11 greatest players in the world running around in QPR shirts - if they can't play as a team, it doesn't count for ####. It's all well and good saying that Redknapp has done a good job rebuilding the squad, but that wound was largely inflicted by him to begin with, with his penchant for bringing in loan players / players coming to the end of their career / players who weren't good enough to make the step up (they were usually all three).

I can't agree that he did a good job getting us back up either - if anything, he under-performed last season if the bookies odds are anything to go by (and they usually are), and with the funds at his disposal in relation to last season's competition. He did just about what was expected of him, nothing more - that hardly merits gratitude in my book.

The idea was to create a European-style group of 'ultras' who would peddle the board's line at all times, in return for various favours such as Pete's famous free seat and access to "rumours"/leaks.

People with a bit more scepticism, who weren't wowed by Paladini's tough guy / "successful businessman" bllocks, tended to keep well clear.

This is why even today you get whole threads on here full of people saying Tony Fernandes walks on water, best chairman in the league, our hero, and so on, whereas the other forums have long since learned to be sceptical towards him.

It's not that this forum has a particular stance towards TF as opposed to rival owners; we've changed owners several times since WATRBs was founded. It's that this board attracted people who enjoy easy answers (who we signing next Pete?) and aren't naturally suspicious of the powers that be (he's explained himself so give him a break, see this press release), and this culture has been maintained since.

(Please don't reply telling me that you personally always hated Pete, were always suspicious of TF, or that I once said something nice about TF - this is a general point about the forums' culture, obviously there are loads of exceptions within this).

Thanks for being the first of presumably several to help prove my point.

If you think I don't like anything QPR-related you clearly haven't read my posts very well.
