...tbf and in the spirit of balance, surely if one of our central defenders had done exactly the same thing as Shawcross and got away with it time after time, it would have been regarded as good defending.
You clearly didn't see the game.
Once again trying to oppose something for the sake of it.
John Hartson @JohnHartson109m
How on earth doesn't Martin Atkinson give a penalty against Ryan Shawcross today for holding Steven Caulker back.. Totally ridiculous. #MOTD
Your talking nonesense and arguing for the sake of it. They were clear fouls and pens end of nothing to do with us getting away with it. Yiu said its good defending when it's clearly not good defending as your risking a pen
And your wrong we would moan and did when it was our player doing it. Do you not remember everyone saying Mbia was a walking penalty when done what shawcross did or you choosing to forget or ignore that
Both pundits on motd (keown and lennon) said deffo a foul on rio. They also showed caulker getting grabbed by shawcross in the chat bit after but not in the highlights.

As did Michael Owen, John Hartson, Harry Redknapp etc etc. Suffice to say it was a clear foul, as were the Shawcross ones which should have won us at least one penalty.

Atkinson had a poor game. Had he disallowed their first and given us a penalty we could well have earned all three points today.
We keep hearing Stoke fans saying why does Shawcross not get a sniff at an England call up well we saw today why nasty, cheating and vindictive player
At least he has some idea of what defending means. If our highly paid professionals can't cope with a bit of rough, we might as well pack up shop. There are ways and means. If the ref isn't calling and it becomes a wrestling match, then give some back.
As is so often the case, moaning about opponents is normally a sign that they've done their job.
I've been making a point of watching shawcross for about a year now on MOTD, in perpetual total astonishment as to how he gets away with it every week. I don't buy the argument either that there would be a hundred penalties every week if refs punished for holding. It would stop overnight as clubs lost games through it. This is football not rugby.

Now it seems to have been highlighted, one of our relegation rivals will probably benefit with a penalty against them.
