I didn't think he "opted" for Canada. I thought that they wanted to keep him until their playoffs were over.

Yeah as far as I know (and according to Tony) Defoe wanted to come but Toronto wouldn't sell him!
"Imagine a relationship that went wrong but you held on in there for years: that's what it is like supporting a football team. Your loyalty to a team can never die. Ties are stronger than they could ever be with a woman. If she goes and sleeps with your best mate, it's over. If the Rs' boss, Ian Holloway, slept with my best mate, QPR would still be my team. Even if many of the things that you loved about going to matches have gone - terraces, team shirts without sponsors and being able to smoke at grounds - you still stick with your team." - Peter Doherty.

            Kranjcar or none.

Don't know what peoples problem with Mutch is and if you're judging him from his first 3 games only you don't know much about football

happy on paper with all of them
problem is that football isn't played on paper

got to give them 8 - 10 to make FAIR judgements imo

False question imho. In fairness to the board they were happy to shell out for Defoe or even 10m for Borini so it wasn't an either/ or question. Just comes down to a failure of management - not of finance - to have suitable replacement for Remy teed up should he have left - which was hardly a bolt from the blue whatever Harry says.

ps: I can't really criticise a single one of the signings we have ACTUALLY made, only sadness is the one we missed out on at the end. If I had to choose it would be Niko but if he has lost weight and is anxious to prove himself am happy to give him the benefit of the doubt as he was certainly a special player back in the day.

for all those defoe fans, i follow the MLS on twitter and they retweeted a tweet by toronto fc saying that they had received a record bid for defoe but rejected it
i supported qpr in the glory days when chris kiwomya and michael ngonge played up front

Just interested - how does that work then? In order to even talk to a player, we have to actually have a bid accepted. So how do you actually "tee up" a replacement?

Lots of people saying it was obvious Remy would leave but, from the club's point of view, despite all of the media hype and speculation, they only had one offer (before Chelsea) and that fell through.

So, the bottom line is that Remy was staying until the day before deadline day, when he was snatched by Chelsea. Yes, the club could have signed an additional striker, just in case, but who would we get who would be prepared to be behind Remy and Charlie in the pecking order?

Not trying to be argumentative, just think that things are not as clear-cut as some are saying, especially without the benefit of hindsight.

This is a very negative and pointless thread.

A better subject line would have been "Which of our new signings is sh!t?".

How about just embracing them all and seeing what they can do?

It was a record bid for an MLS player, the timing was just really poor with Nelsen being fired the previous day and the team in a bit of a slide, it would have been a public relations disaster to sell Defoe after wooing back the fans with his signing in the spring! He is really injury prone and it looks like he will have surgery for a sports hernia now and may not play another match for TFC, we may have dodged a bullet!
