  • Clint urges Harry to stick with 4-4-2

    He told Sky Sports:

"I think we worked well as a four, so hopefully we’ll take the positives from that.

Everyone knows the system, probably played it most of their careers at the back and in the middle so we know our formation, know our system, and know our individual roles in it. Hopefully we’ll stick at it.

We’ve got to take the positives from it - clean sheet and we managed to score a goal which always helps."

Slightly misleading headline.... He expresses his preference, but doesn't 'urge' Harry to follow it.

      3 at the back

Judging from harry's post match comments it seems we only went 4 at the back to get a win under our belts before the break, probably because everyone's used to that and the fact Remy was ruled out at the last minute. Looks like we'll be continuing with the 3 at the back, at least the break will allow us to get more familiar with it. 4 at the back was a short term fix yesterday, 3 at the back is Harrys long term goal imo.

I doubt it. If it ain't broken, don't fix it. We'll carry on with 4-4-1-1.

Thought we played 4-3-3. Don't think Harry is scrapping 3-5-2, he keeps saying it's about the players and not the system. It'll depend on the comings and goings.

Well it was essentially 4-3-3 in possession, 4-4-1-1 without the ball.

Even though it's great win, don't think our problem is solved with 4 at the back. Sunderland on a few occasions got a few quality shots in and if it wasn't a couple of top quality saves from Green then we wouldn't of had a clean sheet.

Playing four at the back won't solve all our problems, agreed. Asking the entire team to adapt to a new formation that they are all unfamiliar with however will (and already has) caused a number of unnecessary problems. The players know and feel comfortable playing 4 at the back - why change it? 3-5-2 is en vogue following the WC, but in the PL you really need to play with a bona fide LB and RB in order to stop the plethora of pacy wingers in the division getting a run on you. Basically, playing 4 at the back makes more sense for a club like us.

Good considered post and who knows, maybe Harry et all will have a degree of flexibility as it would appear that we are building a very decent squad, with players who are comfortable with the ball and who are likely to be able to adapt to different challenges....

fair play to clint and joey to tell harry what system to play but its a real worry when the players get it right but the manager dosent.

3-5-2 absolutly stinks. everyone can see what is happening at united and their squad are as strong as hell.

                          4411, 442, 451, 433 from now on please.

The great is though is that Harry's big enough to take advise. AVB anyone??

very true mate. and with wise heads like clint and joey at the club, pitching their views and opinions on team tactics is all good by me.

Im so confident we will be fine this season, just dont sign the gallows tomorrow.
