Awesome signing, played a blinder against us at home a few seasons back. Remember him making an unreal save from a Granero free kick, and stopped Adel 1-on-1 too, well happy with this.

Good news, just wonder if he is for cover and then will take over next season of if he will replace Green shortly.

The way that interview went, we could be seeing him replace Green sooner rather than later...

A profile of new QPR goalkeeper Alex McCarthy following his move from Reading ...
A PRODUCT of the Reading Academy, highly-rated shot-stopper Alex McCarthy arrives at Loftus Road with a reputation as one of the finest young keeper’s on these shores.

McCarthy kick-started his career on loan in the Conference with Woking, before signing professional terms with the Royals in 2008.

He made his Football League debut in 2009 whilst on loan to Aldershot Town and spent the following season at Yeovil Town, playing 45 games in the 2009/10 season.

His performances at Huish Park also earned him a new contract at Madejski Stadium until the summer of 2013, and he made his England U21 debut just days after putting pen to paper in August 2010.

A loan spell in West London at Brentford followed, for whom he made three starts, before he really shone to prominence at the Madejski Stadium.

A superb spell between the sticks during the 2010/11 season inspired the Royals to a fairy-tale run to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, with one save away at Everton described by former England boss Kevin Keegan as ‘one of the best saves you'll ever see.’

At the end of the season, he gained further experience as part of England's squad for the UEFA U21 Championships.

McCarthy further enhanced his reputation with loan spells at both Leeds and Ipswich in the 2011/12 campaign, before returning to the Royals for the Barclays Premier League campaign of 2012/13, making his top flight debut against Tottenham Hotspur in September 2012.

A top display of goalkeeping helped seal a 2-2 draw with Swansea a month later, before a performance Rangers fans will recall well as he pulled off a number of stunning saves, including a stoppage time block from Adel Taarabt.

After undergoing surgery, he produced another outstanding display to earn the Royals a 0-0 draw against Liverpool towards the end of the season – a performance Reds boss Brendan Rodgers described as one of the best goalkeeping displays he has ever seen.

He ended an excellent year on an almighty high, with Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson recognising his talent and potential by including him in the senior England squad for friendlies against Ireland and Brazil.

His fine form continued for the Berkshire side last season, with McCarthy making 44 appearances in the Championship, featuring in both fixtures against QPR.

Not really it says in the official interview that we beat off late competition from a very big premiership side . I'm assuming that was Liverpool

Wing back, ain't he? Glad Liverpool didn't pinch him. He must be an honourable fella.

He could well be, very good young keeper. Has aspirations of one day being England number 1, and if he gets regular games at the top level I don't see why that can't happen.
