Need a goalkeeper

Totally agree with opening post.
We DO need a decent Premier class goal keeper and Green is nowhere near Premier class.
That said he wasn't to blame for todays defeat. the whole team carry the can for that and so does the manager.
Green is an ok goalie but that's it - ok.
The fact he never comes out off his line to try and get anywhere near a cross or corner across the 6 yard box is gonna be ruthlessly exposed week in week out at this level.
That cross for their first goal was practically floated across the 6 yard box and a DECENT keeper would have come straight off his line and dealt with it - Green never does.
Any team that has done their homework on us know that as long as they put plenty of balls in this area then it is simply a 50 / 50 chance on whether our defenders clear it or they get a chance on goal. Cos as sure as a bear poops in the woods Green isn't gonna come for it.
Look at the second half of last season and how many goals we conceded at set pieces. Heard a stat quoted on the radio the other day and we conceded more goals from set pieces last year than any other team.
We would probably have conceded a lot less if we had a keeper that wasn't petrified to come off his line and do his job.
At one nil down today we had a corner and their keeper came off his line and cleared the ball at about 10 or 12 yards out! the ball broke and they very nearly scored. Green would never do this.
It is his one big weakness but one that is gonna concede a lot of goals at this level.
Green on his day can be a good shot stopper, I think his positioning is good also, a lot of shots are often straight at him which you have to give him credit for, for being in the right place, but, and it is a big but, his inability to command his area and in particular the 6 yard box will cost us dear this year. It is a weakness which gets punished at this level.
Pretty sure Redknapp knows this which is why we are supposedly in for another keeper.
I think whoever we get is gonna be first choice pretty soon as Green just doesn't have all the attributes needed at this level.
For what it's worth I am happy with the two players we got from Cardiff but my first choice would have been to go for their keeper David Marshall. Excellent shot stopper and not afraid to leave his line. Green often looks like he has been tied to the posts.
I like Green and lets not forget his contribution in the playoff final, but for me I really think his inability to come off his line and be a commanding presence in his own area justifies the OP in saying we do need a new keeper. Certainly at this level.
