Southampton are wasting all that money.
He was loaned out loads before us but when with us he made his mark. Since then he's been in and out at Spurs with Injury but then made his mark in style with England and baring injury no doubt a cert for the World Cup. The fact is he's currently hot property and in the market his value will be way more than £7m when the likes of Lalana is £24m, Shaw £35m etc. Players who may have been more consistent in the league but are equally on the fringe of the England team.

Yeah he is, but he's 32 and they got what they could for him rather than give him a new deal. Regardless, he's an exception rather than the rule though and you're just being pedantic if you don't actually acknowledge that English players are generally overpriced compared to foreigners in the English market. If not you must be the only person who doesn't know this.

With regards to Long, i'm not advocating for one second he's worth that, but the point is, clubs are paying even more silly money now. Also, no selling clubs will benchmark against the likes of the Lambert deal, which on paper sounds cheap, they will compare against big deals of average or deemed worse players than their own they're selling.

Matt Phillips will be better than Townsend IMO. Don't see why we need to waste £10m on a similar player.

No...im just pointing out the fact that there is an exception to every rule.

I agree and think Matt Philips is class and could well out perform Townsend too if he stays fit. Very good crosser, direct and powerful. Personally I'm not a huge fan of Townsend and he used to infuriate me when on loan as incredibly greedy and started shooting from anywhere. That said, he's had loads of positive media and press and his market value is what it is as a result.

Not really a wing-back and not a striker. Not really cut out for. 352.

Partly "saved" Spurs on Satuday. Strected the opposition like he did the season when he played for us.

I'd love him back with us but £10m is a lot of dosh although I think he's worth it.

Anyone think Harry will go in for him?

Taylor made for a 3-5-2 formation.
Part exchange for Schneiderlin. He'll end up at Saints

Not sure our board would be parting with that much for anyone. I like Andros Townsend, he has heaps of potential but the transfer market has gone potty this window. Our best bet is to avoid players that clubs want to keep and find the ones that need to move (like Leroy Fer), that's where the bargains will be had at the moment!

North of £10m for a winger just isn't what we need right now - yes Townsend is a good (not as good as some think) player who will probably retain or increase in value over the next 5 years, so he could be seen as a safe investment...I would just prefer to see that money spent on a classy creative midfilder i.e. De Guzman. As some have mentioned, I think if given a run in the side Philips could be just as good as Townsend, for 1/3 of the price.

Yes, agree with that, it's a good way to do business. We did the same with Caulker and Mutch.

I wouldn't sign Townsend if we're building a team around 3-5-2. I'm not convinced he can play wingback, and if we change the formation, we've got Phillips. Our priorities are CM and CF.
Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

Spot on. We have already picked up a bargain in Caulker. There were some excellent players who were relegated last season...If we pick a few of them up under value and bring in some more obscure acquisitions i.e. Isla, we'll be laughing.

I think with Isla, Phillips, Traore, Yun and Simpson we are ok for the system we want to play. All we need is someone for the "10" role and then a CM and ST. If we get Fer, then we are one attacking midfielder short of an excellent starting 11

Yeah, I agree with that too. Centre mid has to be our top priority, only really got 3 players up to the job there, 1 of this is Faurlin who has 2 dodgy knees, another is Barton who will pick up suspensions.
