Why not play 1 up front then if it's just about being defensive? A 5-4-1/4-5-1? Whilst it's true that it is used in that way, for geting men behind the ball, it is also for the attacking and possesssion merits too. There is simply no, this is right and this is wrong. It's a combination of the two.

Am unclear as to what you mean in first bit. I respond to posts I disagree with. No malice intended as I don't know you. Just find you overly negative. Personal preferences and all that.

This 3-5-2 system has been tried before by clubs and abandoned it. I prefer 4-2-3-1 myself.

        Today, we played 3-4-1-2.

Will, I was just pointing out that one of the criticisms of the set up is that you can end up playing to contain.....

          No worries either way.

Fair play mate, maybe I jumped on you a bit because of past posts. Which is totally unfair, just a bit sore after another opening day defeat. Please accept my sincere apology.

I find it annoying that HR lets JB get away with too many floated corners and free kicks which goalkeepers love to see coming at them, when the whipped in cross a la Gerrard causes goals and problems all day long.

Then, when Dunne came off, we went 433. That's the beauty of the system; flexibility and the ability to play offensively or defensively as is needed.

Unfortunately it led to Phillips playing RB. I still believe 4-2-3-1 is a better system because it converts to 4-3-3, 4-4-2, and 4-5-1 easily, with minimal substitutions. The defence remains intact and you can overload the midfield or attack as required.

not so sure it worked that well. didint seem much urgency to get the ball froward when we were behiind probably Bartons poorest game in ages? also Faurlin seemd to have loads of the ball without really doing much with it? not sure Simpson can play R/wing back and not great service to the strikers
for me juries still out? but we ahve to give it time?

It worked brilliantly and I for one like the system.. Leads to exciting football.

It worked really well considering it was our 1st competitive game playing it and it was the 1st game the majority of our 1st team players have played together.
1st time Remy and Austin have played together.
