Sure, agree. Just thinking in terms of hypothetical Remy/Welbeck vs Lineker/... matchups.

Sturridge is just a ridiculously good all round forward these days. I do think Welbeck gets categorised as more of a pure striker than he should be though - like Sturridge but generally less good at everything and much worse at finishing.

I like Welbeck. Very underrated player. Would 100% improve our strike force.

Ok that's fair enough, obviously I understand that. All I'm saying is that I've seen him play a few times, and haven't been impressed at any time....that is my opinion.

See also, Michael Carrick. Or look at the stick Gareth Barry used to get for being the poor relation to Yaya Toure. Then he pops up at Everton anchoring a top six side.

Good points by stationcafe above - predictably laughed at by the hapless Nick who just can't be right about anything, ever - though I's probably still take Remy over Welbeck (just). It's a close one though, and the Chicarito comparison is very apt.
I agree, however my point was that he seems to be rated above his actual level of ability purely because he is at a massive club. Sure, he would probably do a very good job for Hull or indeed us....but then he probably wouldn't be rated as highly as he currently is either.

Would be a huge signing for us, no 2 ways about it

20 goals in 90 games for manure, an average of 8.4 goals a season.

Nick mate you don't have a clue do ya? By last few years I meant since the last world cup tbh. Which England player has performed in that time? None. You could maybe argue for Walcott I guess...

Gary Lineker built an entire career in the opposition 6 yard box. Never heard anyone complain about his work-rate for the team.
This is true, but I'm not just talking about work rate. You don't have to run yourself into the ground to contribute to the team; just knowing when to pass, which run to make and anticipating the next pass is enough.

Linekar is before my time but I'd contrast him against someone like Bent/Defoe. Defoe scores goals and gets headlines, but does nothing else. Doesn't have the ability to play a killer ball, is always running into either his teammates' space or dead ends, and is RIDICULOUSLY wasteful for someone who is supposedly a great finisher.

Disagree that he's only rate cos he's at Utd as well, if he was playing for Everton, So'ton, Newcastle, Spurs etc. he'd be bagging 15-20 a season easily. Sadly there's no chance they're selling their only homemade player imo!

This is my whole point. I remember hearing about Ian Wright scoring a hat-trick for Arsenal and George Graham had a go at him as he didnt make enough runs in the game. He scored 3 goals and Arsenal won....total goalscorers job.......I doubt any Arsenal fan would have said Wright didnt do enough for the team that day.

You can include me in the "fan of Danny Welbeck" camp. This is one player that would actually be worth spending big money on (e.g. 14m) provided he is keen to go from Man U to relatively little QPR. Young, hungry, and gifted. He would improve our squad a lot.

The fact is, Danny Welbeck has scored an average of less than 9 goals in a 38-game season for arguably the biggest and most successful club in the country, if not Europe. Would he score more or less at a club like QPR or Hull, and is this a case of a player that's hyped up because he's young, English, and plays for Man Utd?

This is exactly my point, couldn't agree with you more. Single digit scoring figures per season at the biggest club in the country is absolutely nothing special. He would probably improve us, but for the price being quoted I would expect a lot more.
