He is indicative of how far standards have dropped in English football.... he's very average and in any other period of football he would not have got an England or United start. We seem content with a bit of running around and "showing willing" as a replacement for actual talent/ability now??? I'm happy he's off though - I made a bet with a United mate for a few quid at start of this year that Welbeck wouldn't be a United player by Xmas. I'm even happier he's gone to Hull so we didn't get mugged.

Would be an absolute star in a hoops shirt if we could get him and a front four of him, Austin, Remy and Bobby is not shabby at all

He might be an average United player but were not Man Utd the biggest club in the world were not even the biggest club in our borough so a player of Wellbecks stature would be quite a coup for the club given his age, experience and potential
Your right he does work double hard but don't assume that means he does not have the tricks and touch as he does and often pulls moves out when playing for Man Utd

held back and perhaps short of confidence by Rooney and van Persie, technically gifted although not a natural goal scorer. Agree, could be a real star at RangersI must away now, I can no longer tarry

See also, Michael Carrick. Or look at the stick Gareth Barry used to get for being the poor relation to Yaya Toure. Then he pops up at Everton anchoring a top six side.
Good points by stationcafe above - predictably laughed at by the hapless Nick who just can't be right about anything, ever - though I's probably still take Remy over Welbeck (just). It's a close one though, and the Chicarito comparison is very apt.
1) been England's best player for the past few year's..
Cole
Rio
Gerrard
Hart
Townsend
Terry (sorry)
Wiltshire
Defoe
Cahill
Lampard
Baines
When playing for England and at their best, would rather any of these players on the pitch over Welbeck any day.
2) Welbeck is good enough to displace Remy
Really??SIR LESLIE FERDINAND!!

Gary Lineker built an entire career in the opposition 6 yard box. Never heard anyone complain about his work-rate for the team.

Some of the names you mentioned are laughable. Defoe has never been as good as Welbeck is now; Lampard hasn't done much for England in years; Rio hasn't even played for England in this period; Townsend had a decent game against some Macedonian League 2 players which predictably got people who fall for the Sky hype machine really excited but nothing else.
I don't agree Welbeck has been England's best player over the past few years but there aren't really many outstanding candidates and at least stationcafe has given a decent explanation of why he thinks this. you've just laughed at him.
Not sure Welbeck is good enough to displace Remy. I think they're both squad players at a really good club (Man U+) or stars at a QPR/Newcastle. They'd make a hell of a partnership in a counter-attacking 352 with a certain someone in the hole.

Remy is far closer to Lineker than Welbeck, who would be the Beardsley of the analogy.

Defoe- when at his best for England he hardly missed when given the opportunity, when he played.
As for the other's you say are laughable. I agree when they've played for England they've not done as well as they do for club but still 10 times better than Welbeck.... maybe just shows how poorly I rate Welbeck!SIR LESLIE FERDINAND!!

anything more is A FEW YEARS
Now Geng I know you seem to have a weird obsession where you have to argue with everything I say, but next time can you maybe make the subject worth arguing about instead of just trying to argue for the sake of arguing please.SIR LESLIE FERDINAND!!

- You said Rio had been a better player for England over the past few years than Welbeck.
I pointed out Rio hadn't even played for England in the past few years
2011 = three years ago. A few = three or more.
Don't forget this started because you replied to a thoughtful post with a load of laughing smilies.
