I would be interested to know the ticket prices for yesterday and where the cash goes?

As both teams have large fan bases you would of thought selling out would be easy enough so perhaps the pricing put people off. If so fair play to them for making a stand.

I actually agree with the original poster about the equivalence of the play-off trophy and the FA Charity Shield, or whatever it is called these days.

The play-off trophy is a competition between teams who couldn't even get into the top two in the second division. True, the prize is promotion but 12 months on you can easily be back where you started.

The FA Charity shield is played between the CHAMPIONS of England and the FA Cup WINNERS. And if you win it, it goes on your list of honours forever more. Don't tell me there aren't significant bragging rights at stake too. It is NOT a friendly!

But the point surely - if we're looking to make a wider statement about QPR's ability to fill a bigger stadium - is whether it means as much to the fans of the clubs involved. And it really, really obviously doesn't. You think Man City forums were full of "my dad has booked flights over from Australia for this anyone got a spare ticket?" posts? I doubt it.

I'm sure millions more people around the world watched the Community Shield but they aren't going to be filling the new AirAsia multiplexsuperpark for us when Bolton come to town in 2020

You are right about that but I wasn't looking to make a wider statement. The original poster took some flak for saying the two competitions were equivalent in stature and I just wanted to stick my oar in to say that I agree. Actually, I think the FA Charity Shield is higher in stature. But I agree with your point that it means much less to Arsenal than the Play-Off Final meant to us.

Charity shield is just another meaningless friendly and the play off final is the biggest money earning game of football on the entire planet. No comparison.

A Championship Play Off Final and Community Shield game on the same level? One is the richest game in the world, the other is a friendly!

Keep kidding yourself that we can fill 35-40k stadium week in week out just because we took 40k to Wembley. Do you think everyone at Wembley was a Rangers fan? Do you think people who flew in from all over the world would do it every home game?

As a stable PL club, we'd average 25k max, unless we're going down the route of giving away tickets and becoming a tourist club, something I'd detest! We're a small club, people need to get used to it, no shame whatsoever! I'd rather have 20,000 proper fans than 40,000 plastic!
I see you're back to calling people deluded if they hold an opinion you disagree with. Since when did you become the font of all knowledge? You're just an average fan like the rest of us.

Besides, the recent fans survey stated that the majority of fans want a 30-40k stadium with most of those wanting 35k.

                Are they deluded too?

Good point, but my original issue is with perspectives.

Because both Man C and Arsenal are competing for bigger prizes during the season then yes, by comparison this community shield match is a meaningless trophy to them, (especially if you lose. However, if you win, it suddenly becomes a big achievement). So they conveniently call it a friendly because compared to the Champs league, or league title it is. But, if say Rangers, or Derby, or Southampton say won the FA Cup, the resulting community shield game against the league champs would not be a friendly, because the status of winning this is highly regarded for them, by comparison.

Add to this fact that Man C and Arsenal enjoy gates 3 or 4 times more than we do, so surely relatively speaking, rangers fans efforts to get 40k to wembley is like Man C or Arsenal bringing 150k if the game had equal importance. Not an ideal comparison, but the point is that we have a bigger fan base than some think, but we are currently restricted by our capacity and poor stadium facilities.

Haha, I knew you'd pop up seeing as it seems you've got an investment in our new stadium, the amount of times you bang on about it!

Why have you popped your head up anyway? What's it got to do with you?

I'll call someone, or anyone deluded if they think a Community Shield game is the same as a Championship Play Off Final. Can't I disagree with them?

Where have I mentioned deluded in relation to our new stadium? Once again, reading something and then making it up in your silly little mind. Put your glasses on Richard.

I'm not going to get into a slanging match with you. So I seem to have an investment in the new stadium now? What a weird suggestion!

Of course you're entitled to disagree with any views made on here, but do you have to do it in your know-it-all way? Like I said, you're just an average fan like the rest of us.

qpr will never ever fill 40000 seats on a regular basis unless messi, ronaldo, neymar, rodrigeuz, muller, bale signed for us..............even then i think we,d struggle....we are historically a championship/league 1 size club and this fascination of big new stadiums is a pie crust promise from owners who couldnt even deliver warren farm!

Really think we wouldn't sell out the 35k seats for a Capital One Cup Final this season???

                            They'd be gone.

FA Cup Final you only get 19k allocation so they'd fly out too.

Would only become an issue if it was every other season
