  • Phillips and Hoilett

With this new formation where do they stand in the squad?

In a 3 5 2 formation I just cant see them being played. Hoilett I dont mind as much as hes failed to deliver time and time again but phillips I think is such a talent but just cant see him getting game time on the wing.

Phillips could play as a number 10. Doubt either will start very often though as wing backs isn't there game. Some games we'll go 4-4-2 though, I guess it depends who Harry brings in.

Here's a good article on the formation http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1...esses-of-3-5-2

Bodes well for Traore and Phillips if executed properly.

To be honest not sure either deserve a start, Holliet has flattered to deceive since day one and whilst Phillips has shown glimpses of his ability he needs to far more consistent to warrant a place. Think if Phillips gets his head down he can play as the second striker either as a two, or dropping off but he is at a crossroads and needs to get his act together.

Very harsh regarding Phillips. Harry hardly started him and when he come on we looked ten times better.

Hoilett makes me laugh, even his pass that set up the goal v Derby was shite, passed it straight to Keogh. But you make your own luck and credit for winning the ball in the first place.

              Don't think we'll play 3-5-2 this season. Be more of a 3-4-2-1.
              E.g.

              Green

              -----Caulker Ferdinand Onouha
              Simpson Barton Faurlin Troare
              -----Phillips ------Hoillett
              ------------Austin

We won't always play 352. Even if we did I'm sure against weaker teams he maybe play one FB and one winger. In such instance one of the 3 cb will assess the danger and move across to cover behind the winger with the wing back the other side dropping back to make a solid 4 if hit on the counter.

Agree, i cant see Phillips playing (well not in a natural wing position anyway) especially if we sign Isla who'll play rwb if we play the predicted 352 formation... the only place I can see him playing is on the right of the central midfield next to Barton. As for toilet I really can't see him fitting in at all, which isn't a bad thing IMO!!!

Wouldnt be too shocked to see one of them disappearing out of the door on deadline day in part exchange for someone else, esp hoilet. Like the op i cant see them getting too many games except against weak teams at home.

Hoilett to Stoke for an unnamed former Qpr striker no doubt.

Its a a shame tbh as I know alot didnt get to see phillips in full flow last year due to injury but hes is imo a real talented lad. Quick, strong, direct, often picks out a good ball, just needs to work on finishing a bit more.
I still have a feeling we will quickly rever back to a back 4 formation fairly soon.

Hoilett won't be going anywhere, he's on massive wages and no one will match them.

Phillips has the ability force him self into any formation we will play , just needs H and the coaching staff to realise this and work with him instead of just seeing as a wide man.
For what my opinion is worth I see this boy as a real inside forward in the making
