  • The formation...

I dont think from what I saw tonight that its a traditional 352 that the dutch played. at times I saw it as a 541 where both fullbacks and wingers(hoilett swp) was in wide positions.

I also saw it as 3421 at the start. I do like the change to the back 3 but I'm really unsure we have the players for it.

    Lovejoy: "No?!"
Soldier: "GOD DAMNIT THAT GUYS GOOD!"

From what I saw it was just total chaos in the midfield. Almost got done 3 or 4 times over the top of the back 3 too.

Its hard to say whether the formation is or isn't working as none of us has seen it in place...... well not with our starting 11 anyway. Personally with the player's we have 'at the moment' I think we'd be better suited to a 4.4.2. But the window is still open and still plenty of time to bring player's in..... but IMO to rule out the 3.5.2 on our recent games would be wrong!

I think this change is unnecessary and just causing problems.

We came up playing 4 2 3 1 and I genuinley believe if we had kept that formation we could of used 5, 6 or maybe 7 players ffrom the team that got us promted in the prem, which I am and was so keen for us to do.
With tthe switch I dont think we have the players at present to make it work and will need to bring in more to make it work.
I also prefer a solid back four and wingers in the team, but also knowing the wingers have protection.

The key words there - 'at present'.... this is my point Maides, yeah for sure we all would've wanted most/all transfer to be done by now but there's still plenty of time, and despite some on here thinking they know what's happening the fact is none of us know what's going on behind the scenes.

To be honest mate I'm like you, I prefer a solid back 4 and winger's. Like I've said before 'at the moment' we're much more suited to a 4.4.2, but we can't judge on 'at the moment'

Im not worried about the time its taking to get the players in....my slight worry is by the time we do get them in we cant expect them to just click straight away as considering we are 2 weeks away from the first game I genuinely think we will have a tough 2 or 3 weeks before the players start to gel or get use to the switch of formation. But I agree with what the club are doing this time and if they get this recruitment drive right this benefits us long term.
My main gripe about the formation is wingers because I dont think we have the right ones at the club to do that job at present. But hopefully that will get rectified.

Yeah that's fair enough Maids and I understand why the concern. I suppose all we can do is put our trust in HR and TF to bring in those 'right sorts', and also trust that HR and the rest of the training staff will get the players to gell.....But despite what people think of him HRs been in this game for a long time and I trust that he will guide us to a successful premiership campaign, just like he worked wonders in getting rid of all them wrong'uns, getting the team spirit together and getting us promoted on his first attempt...

I just hope whatever time it takes to get players in/understand playing this 3-5-2, we dont go 14 games without a win !

Spot on mate - I trust them completely. Cant argue with what they have both done for the club. Harry will get it right imo - old head full of experience and signings like caulker and rio show he knows what he's doing.
As soon as he gets the players he wants I honestly believe it will be just a case of getting use to each other and I actually think we will be surprise package this year.
