  • Redknapp targets SIX more signings

Harry Redknapp has targeted six more signings as he tries to strengthen his squad for the start of the Premier League campaign.

“If you look at the team we had out there, no disrespect to them kids but we’re trying to get them out on loan to the lower divisions. We can’t go into the season with those two strikers because Bobby really is an off-the-bench man and he knows that.

We’ve got to improve that area. We need strikers and we need a couple of midfield players and a ‘number 10′. We need to strengthen the squad. We need a bit of quality. We’re in the Premier League now and it’s going to be a tough division.”

“We are still short, we have two strikers. We have Bobby [Zamora] and Charlie [Austin] but it is taking time. Hopefully in the next week or so we can put that right.

We need some players there is no doubt about that, you can play any system you want but it takes a few good players, which we are short of, to make the difference. We're trying to get things done, Tony knows that obviously."

      Still no closer.....Harry video post-Orient: http://www1.skysports.com/watch/vide...eking-strikers

And the latest on Remy...Harry: “We need to know whether he’s going to stay or not, because we can’t be losing him on transfer deadline day or something and then not have a striker. If he’s going to stay we need that commitment now and we need to get him going, get him fit and get him playing.”

This is common sense but its still reassuring to hear that's how the club feel too.... This is something that needs to be sorted ASAP.

This is the dilemma though, even if we get a commitment there will still always be that risk of him dissappearing late in August becasue of the stupid buy out clause meaning we can't stop it happening if a club meets that value. Also lets face it, if some of the top end clubs have failed to land other targets in the window and we're getting into the last week or last few days, Remy on the cheap is an easy minimum risk option because he's proved himself in the prem already.

In that case they should negotiate an addendum to his contract (if he agrees to stay on) striking out the buy-out clause until January at least, if not beyond.

That's what would be needed to happen, but cant see him agreeing as such as ultimately not in his interests to do so.

This "buy out clause" or however one wishes to refer to it. None of us know the details obviously, as it varies depending on which newspaper you prefer to listen to.

But if it is still active more than a year after relegation, despite the fact we have gone back up and is still causing us uncertainty for either pre 31st August and maybe even in January, then it is quite possibly the furthest that TF's pants have been pulled down since his arrival. Absolutely insane situation.

In 2 months and over we have signed 2 players.. there's being careful and then there's being f*cking picky!!

You can say we aint gona get done over again etc etc. But good players do cost money!! You have to continue to take some risks!!

He wanted CL football but now very unlikely that any of those clubs will come in for him, so perhaps he could be persuaded he'd be better off sticking with us for now.

I'm not so sure it is unlikely. As per earlier post, if they miss out on other targets, they could late in the day just trigger the rumoured clause and take a chance on him as it's only £8m for a French international with proven prem goals in him. He represents an incredible bargain in todays market, and for a relative pittance to CL clubs, they'd almost be mad not to, even if it's to bolster their striking options and have him as 4th choice.....

Spot on Del. It's annoying me with the comments coming out of the club from TF and Harry regarding Remy committing, as we're powerless if a bid matches the buyout clause. They could have a gentleman's agreement that Remy will stay until January but that's worthless really as Remy could go back on that if a club come calling that he fancied. The only way to end this speculation and his future is to offer him a new contract, something Remy won't entertain I'd imagine.

I don't think it's a relegation clause, as it would be hugely complicated now due to us being back in the Premier League. I actually think it's just a general buyout clause, nothing to do with relegation.

Not sure they would pay a 4th choice striker the wages Remy wants. He might have a cheap transfer clause, but he is on good wages.

You could well be right mate.

Ridiculous situation, although that's modern day football.
