  • Striker situation -

    1. Who are realistic targets, as im really struggling to name many and especially ones that might be available too.
    2. If we did sign someone like deeney for 8 mill what are people's thoughts - have we been mugged off or do we need to just get use to the fact this seems to be the going rate atm.
    3. If we dont want to pay 8 mill plus for someone like deeney where do we look, next who would people be happy with. Would you prefer 8 mill on deeny paying over the odds or bring someone in like crouch for example?

This is where the desire to buy mainly British players as has been suggested, will come with big downsides. Deeney at £8m is terrible value for money, but at the current going rate it's probably what you'd expect to pay for a home-grown player successful at Championship level, but as yet unproven at the top level.

Anyone who spends 8m on Deeney needs help. Letting Remy go might end up being a false economy, there is very little quality on the market for at a realistic price.

There maybe another solution. I'd like to see AT up top playing around Charlie plus the addition of a decent attacking mid park player. Have always thought AT is true 10, in our best tradition. This would be a cheaper and more effective option. Definitely worth trying as long as we can find a midfielder with a bit of pace and quality.

Got a lot of stick on here for insisting we pick up Rhodes from Huddersfield last time we were in the prem. £3.5m. That bus left a while ago, would still take him over Deeney.

Id go for Jordan Rhodes but think Blackburn will want around 10 mill for him which is too much IMO, id look at someone like Sam Baldock for Bristol City.. 25 goals last season.
League 1 top scorer.. TF said he would look at League 1 players and HR said his looking at a British striker so you never know

Rhoads signed a 4 year contract just last week. He won't be going anywhere soon. If Watford turned down 8 mil for Deeny we may as well just bid 10 mil for origi and see what happens. You won't know unless you try?

Go for the unproven Ajax player for 4,7m + a loan instead of unproved British Championship player for 10+m

Get this Ajax kid on board.

Also think we will see Matt Phillips play quite a bit up top this season as well........ Pace.

The only reason I would take Deeny is that he would be hungry and would keep defences on there toes. When you have a striker with pace the oppositions defence are reluctant to push up to high so their is more room in the middle to drive into when breaking. Apart from Remy we haven't had any pace so the other team feel comfortable pushing on us. look what happened to Spam at their place when they pushed to high against Remy, that's what we need this season, pacy attackers

Adel has flopped three years in a row and given left out of tour squad probably on verge of leaving anyway.

Agree on Deeney although don't think we have the luxury of choice with Remy. The crazy way the market is at present if we tried to sell Bobby we'd get £20m plus.

I thought he turned us down.

I think a player from a lower league who has the experience of playing in the Premiership (so possibly would not break the bank especially if he had a release clause). Somebody who is quick and can supplement Charlie.
