As for Wiltshire etc all of them have resale value so yes I would sign them

Like I have said previously if we didn't have Dunne & Hill then I would be more up for the Ferdinand signing
But even on his last legs was out best player and never looked out of place and Dunne done well last season too so the argument of previous injury record and age holds no water

On Walcott etc surely you cannot condone a signing if you have argued so vociferously that injury prone players should be avoided as although young if their injured 95% of the time they will be nicking a living just as much as a 30+ year old

Would add there is no gurantee both Dunne and Hill will make the 25 man squad so it could be Rio and one of them missing out
All this talk of resale value is b ollocks as if I am talking selfishly I don't want our club to be a selling club when he have a top player on our books I want him to spend his best years with us and to flog him when hes no longer any good to us so resale value is a red herring. I got no interest in investing in a player nurturing him only so a bigger club can benefit from our efforts

    • Just go back two months. We're at Wembley hanging on with ten men v Derby, desperate backs to the wall stuff.

Roll forward 2 months and we're signing Rio Ferdinand with possibly Caulker/Lascelles in tow. Derby still have Richard Keogh on their books.

      Life is great!

I would feel the same if we were looking to sign any player who was old , past their best and on high wages
So if there young, are a risk and are on big wages that's ok????

Mate seriously, if u would've offered me the position were in right now after 88mins of that play off final I would've bitten off your arms and legs.

Really can't believe we're squabbling over signing Rio Ferdinand. Easily still one of the best defenders around.

              • Shaun Derry, Clint Hill & Paddy Kenny were all over the hill pensioners also when signed.

How about trust the manager eh? Little bit of advice for you.

It's more of an acceptable risk if they are young and if they fall into our wage structure then yes I would go for them

Who bar that game and a couple of sub appearances had been a disaster and if he hadn't of scored that goal nobody would of cared if he was released

What about Johnson another player we spent a fortune on

Its not more acceptable at all W12 and you have just nailed it its about fitting into a structure and the same must apply to older players. It so frustrating listening to some say injury prone steer clear their old etc when there are just as many young players with equally bad and worse injury records (I named three earlier) then 30 year olds

You can get injury just as easily as an 18 year old as you can as a 38 year old. Your argument appears to be its ok to pay a young player 60k a week if their injured but not a 35 year old. If you injured and not playing regardless of your age your costing the club money simples

Speak for yourself as I would have been concerned as I think he has something to offer the squad and on that basis is Faurlin a disaster and should he have got a contract renewal????

If your now suggesting we need to see the players in the flesh to form an opinion this will turn into one hell of a quiet message board as non of us will have the right to voice an opinion

The Forest CB is an example I cannot recall him playing against us at all last season but many think he the next big thing but I question what that view is based on yes he is young, yes if you believe the hype he is talented but how many of us have seen him play enough to form that opinion????? the view he is great is based in my view on a few saying hes a talented and we jump on board and agree were sheep........
Do you know what you are right westie. Even I am guilty of wanting the forest boy to sign when I can't remember seeing him play either. But because we have bid 4m I automatically assume he is the bees knees

Offering a deal to Faurlin is about showing loyalty to a player who has given us excellent service over the years no problem with that at all

As long as it's acceptable for you to commit the owners money on their contracts then.....
