If we want to add quality to the squad we'll have to pay big money. There's not a problem with paying big money to the right players. I just can't see Rio coming here and coasting along, his pride won't let him.
Yes in an ideal world if we could pay all our players half of what they get now i'd be great but this is football.

As for him not being the player he was, well no obviously, but at his best was arguably the best defender in world football. Even if 70% of the player he was, he'd still be a hell of a player for QPR. Him and Onouha would be a great pairing. Rio's brain and class with Nedum's pace and power.
      Good post!

I like Rio and always will but lack of pace at the back will cost us goals no matter how good they are. I hope I get eggs thrown at me, I'll take it like a man!

If he and Caulker come and with Ned, I'll be over the moon and that would be perfect!

We only needed one or the other of Hill & Dunne, not both.

I agree mate, think hill is going to be more in the background this year, doing his coaching ect....

The fact he isn't capable of playing a whole season is why we shouldn't even be in for him in the first place waste of time and money

This is not the Rio in his prime who won championship and championship. This is a player in decline and I for one do not think players will jump to join us to play with a player past his best. I would invest in the future not on someone's past reputation.

Which is why it was pointless giving him a 1 yr extension to his playing contract.

I would generally agree but Rio was one of the best defenders of his generation in the world as opposed to an average Premiership player. I like Dunne for instance but Rio is at least one step above that and I think younger players would enjoy playing alongside and learning from someone of Rio's caliber.

I agree, and the thing is, many people think we're getting the Rio that was in his prime. He is EX England captain, EX Man Utd, EX champs league player. This isn't the same CB that won tons of stuff. If it was he'd still be at OT. Just why did they release him?

And another thing, I've not heard of other London clubs like Spurs WHU or Palace coming in for him. Wonder why? Seems like Pulis has put in a big effort trying to secure Caulker while we've been chasing Rio. I know who I think got the better deal.
Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

Exactly. Legs well gone and being paid far too much for a first coaching job.

So IF we sign Rio and another CB, that'll be 5 CB at the club, not sure we'll see much/any of Hill and Dunne... even Ned could be a bit of an out cast. I really hope not IMO Ned should be a starter regardless of who we sign.

If Alex was still in charge he wouldn't let Rio go. Just having Rio with the team is huge boost imo, for the younger players especially. If we can afford it why not? Players who bother too much with what other players get should just mind their own business.
