  • Settle an argument

Just to change the subject could you settle an argument I'm having with my son

I have said that 12 managers in the premier league would settle for 17th next season if offered to them today!

Cos I'm cheesed off with our lack of signings/caulker situation I have also said to him that the premiership is a waste of time with the sole aim being survival

I think it's the only league like this where the sole aim is for survival

    Thoughts would be welcome

not sure it's quite as many as 12 would settle for 17th now - i think a couple of your 12 have designs on europe.

scotland seems less competitve to england. in many respects, spain is too.

Think you'll find that most of the other main European leagues, France Spain Germany Italy, tend to be dominated by a small handful of teams and the rest are also rans......however it was good to see Atletico break that dominance in Spain last season.
Maybe the European football leagues should be run along the lines of US sport.

With franchises and no relegation/promotion? That would be terrible...

I think he may have been referring to the youth/draft system the Americans use, which allows for a 'fairer' distribution of quality across leagues, stopping complete dominance by financially secure teams

That depends on the sport. Baseball has 25 players on the roster, but have a much larger pool of players they can call on. Not sure about American Football but assume that works in a similar way. Basketball is basically based on a one man team (look at LeBron James).

I think in the not too distant future there will be European Leagues for the big (greedy) clubs. Then I feel we can return to the leagues where there is more a level playing field (1976)
I must away now, I can no longer tarry
This morning's tempest I have to cross
I must be guided without a stumble

Agree with that. Am starting to wonder what is in it for a club like us who clearly now recognises that all that Briatore talk of Champions League was just embarrassing and empty given the (understandable) reluctance of any owner to chuck several hundred million quid at the project. We either do pretty well in a league the general public and media ignore (the Championship) or we get served up to lose by a cricket score to the big boys.

I don't think that many would take a 17th if offered , always think the only teams that say that are the promoted three. Teams like Stoke or WBA teams that have been up a few years will be pushing top ten.

There's one already, it's called the champions league, designed to head off the threat of the big clubs going their own way.

And to ensure there's no chance of outside clubs doing a Man City or Chelski, ie investment by new owners to allow their clubs to compete at the top, financial fair play was created.

I would guess the bigger countries, England Spain Italy and Germany for example, will get additional places in years to come for the champs league. What happened to Man Utd, failure to qualify for the champs league for next season, wasn't supposed to happen.
Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.
