Bluehoop has it spot on - the wording is not 'Flab is BANNED', more 'anything associated with him will not be sanctioned by the FIA'. A HUGE difference and not something open to a restriction of trade argument.

Sporting bodies are aware that they cannot stop people legally so they always use this type of language.

If the Big Four wanted to go off an join a World Super League they can do so, but FIFA and the FA would not sanction it. The knock ons of such a move (anyone associated with it would be excluded from Internationals (inc. the World Cup), etc.) would offset any benefit as everyone involved would need to provide a completely new set up away from FIFA and its affiliated bodies. Exactly the same logic applies here; if Flab wants to he can set up his own Motor Sport competitions, but he'll have to go it alone and pursuade others to do so. Unlikely; he is only worth £50m-ish.

      That sounds about right.
Nothing stopping him from racing broom-brooms under another organisation, like Nascar.
He's just banned from any involvement in FIA sanctioned events.

But.... seeing as The FIA are the recognised official governing body of the sport of Formula One, that's not good for FB with regards to the Football League rules.
Which is what matters regarding QPR.

Change "think" for "guess/hope"..... that'd probably be more accurate.

I tend to go with Davmans post, but I don't pretend to have a clue what the people that really matter are planning or thinking.
Or that I have knowledge of the legal ins and outs of it all.

Other than the fact FB waived the right to raise a defence (and subsequently appeal) when he declined to oppose the charges?

Ah, now that's another complication though isn't it Bluehoop. Flav may have been given the punishment, but the hearing was against Renault I think. Maybe there' a loophole for everyone?

We all know the bottom line is how much Flav wants to stay and fight. He may decide that enough is enough and as long as he gets sufficient money, he'll walk away.
However, if he wants to stay then this will drag on through the courts and I suspect that would stop us from doing any business in January.

Seems to me that the best we can hope for is that he sells up and pretty sharpish.

Still, who knows what he is going to do?

I'd kinda assumed that there would have been a settlement negotiated with Renault before FB "took one for the team".

how can he have a leg to stand on with this as here are the facts.instead of standing his corner he walked which in any language is admitting your guilt and trying to escape unpunished.there have been numerous instances in the past that looked dodgy to say the least but this time someone has been caught with their hand in the cookie jar to coin a phrase.there is a statement from piquet that says he was asked to crash the car at 100mph.it's not just his life that is in danger it's the Marshall's and other drivers that could possibly become embroiled in the wreckage that could ensue.there was a similar case in the states if my memory serves me right in the nascar in the nineties.the perpetrator of the crime had attempted murder thrown at him and i think served 12 years in jail and subsequently was banned from participation in any sport for life.cheats get found out eventually and to ask a young driver to risk his life for the betterment of his team is despicable.if I'm right he was found guilty of embezzlement previously so its not exactly a one off oops is it.please dont patronise me with the all big businessmen use underhand tac-tics to get on as i'm fully aware of the way big business works.i very much doubt that you will find many businessmen who force a young star to put his life and others at risk.
what the hell was god thinking of when he thought of hamsters?

but in the meantime, I'd say we'd lose our sponsorship fairly pronto with him around.

I think I'll save this thread to last, I've had a bit of trouble sleeping lately and this looks as though it will beat the old traditional cup of Horlicks, or counting sheepshaggers.

                        Ade,
Can't disagree with any of that, but the point is that Flav is likely to get around this because there is a clear loophole there. Basically, he has NOT been banned.

So, as I said above, this all depends on what HE wants to do - if he wants out, he'll go, if not, he'll stay and I reckon that would spell the end of Bernie and the Mittals.

We'll just have to wait and see...
