How many games was he on the bench for then?

You might also want to take a look at this:

According to this, over the last five seasons, Rio Ferdinand played 104 prem games, an average of around 21 games a season. There were 190 prem games he could have played in but didn't. Perhaps Fergie did the same as Moyes and benched him regularly too? For whatever reason, Rio has missed the equivalent of over two whole seasons out of the last five. Fact.

Guys like you, Brightsparx and Westie can argue all you like, and of course you're all entitled to your opinion, but facts are facts. Whatever way you look at it, and for whatever reason, he has missed around 17 prem games a season over the last five. Because of his injury record, alleged or otherwise, I do not expect his appearance record to suddenly rocket this coming season, and as he gets older, I can't see this improving. Some have said it would be good to get 25-30 games out of him next season, but the stats show it's unlikely. Is it possible that we can squeeze more games out of him and succeed where Man Utd failed?

It is for this reason that I think he is too much of a risk for us.
It's not only about the premier league though is it..... Utd have Champions league and other cups they compete in. In all comps, over the last 4 years he played 124 games, an average of 31 games / season..... and yet you suggest, and I quote "Some have said it would be good to get 25-30 games out of him next season, but the stats show it's unlikely"....... Good work.

It was about 4 / 5 seasons ago his back became an issue I think, but even with that, if you average his appearances over the last 8 years it's still 36 / season.

And that doesn't include games he was available for selection, but didn't play for whatever reason.

I noticed you missed out the season where he played only 13 games in the prem which distorts what I was saying.
Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

That would be 5 years ago then, so clearly included in the 8 year example I also added.

Either way you can't just point out a season where there were injury problems because everyone gets injured. Charlie Austin only played in 31 of 46 league games last season and only 25 of 46 in 2010/11.... should we get rid of him??

Anyway, what's your obsession with only detailing prem games...??? Utd have bigger fish to fry like Champions league, which he also played 6 times, and in total still played 21 games that season. We wont have other priorities.

          • There is no point averaging out Rio's appearances over the last 5,6,7,8 or however many years, because he wasn't 35years old 5,6,7,8 years ago.

He is going to be 36 this year and has been struggling with injuries. Stop looking at the past and think of the present. His knees have gone. It would be foolish to rely on him being able to play consistently.

you cannot let Arry loose with the clubs money because he is a dodgy **** who will give it to his mates. A lot of people seem to be charmed by his personality but he will **** things up if he is not kept on a leash.

It's reassuring that TF and co. seem to be more prudent this year

                    Really?

Why would the papers lie to us? They are honest people doing an honest job.

some might beg to differ on that one......

they have been known to simply make things up.

Going back to the OP, if we again fail in to capture stated targets it may well end up costing us the extra money anyway. £5m offer for Siggy simply says that we're not serious players. No change there. Mistakes made now will cost us come the end of term. Someone needs to take 100% responsibility for our market dealings, I'd sooner see TF round the table than Beard.

Think you'll find that the comment you referred to was very much tongue in cheek.

                        • If it's true that Ferdinand is looking for £100,000 a week, then we need somebody, somewhere, to bring Harry Redknapp to his senses.
Rio would be a great addition to the squad if we could get him for £40-50,000 a week.
I'd be very surprised if any club would meet Rio's demands, even a MLS one, considering his recent injury problems coupled with the fact that he will turn 36 in November.
If Rio and his agent do not budge, then I'm with the board on this one.

                          • they should offer a circa 30k a week basic and up it to 60 when he plays with bonuses. I would happily see Rio play for us on those type of terms.

                            • The Board has (and should have) the final word on any transfer. Personally I don't want Rio. Caulker and Onuoha with Hill, Dunne and Ehmer as back up.
