That free-kick showed immense presence of mind to execute that routine that late on when bodies and minds must have been shattered.
The US, Algeria, Costa Rica have all shown what some decent coaching and tactics can achieve.

The problem with soccer in the US is as follows. I honestly think we have some of the best athletes in the world but the sports by which they can excel and make a lot of money are so diluted that soccer isn't a huge draw to many. They can play baseball, basketball, hockey, football (american) and then soccer. Granted soccer is growing immensely over here, its still a ways off but more and more of the athletes are getting exposed to soccer now at a young age.

Westie calm down son, lets not make out the USA are world beaters all of a sudden.
Belgium were all over them and apart from some poor finishing they should of stuffed them.
To say they would beat England is a little far fetched. We clearly under performed but against italy we showed more than what the US of A did in the whole comp.
Can't stand them and pleased they are out. They defended extremely well so credit there but their finishing was woeful, if dempsey doesn't score a wonder goal then they will never score enough game and that is where they're similar to england.

If you are ever in the company of a group of American men (sometimes women join in), it will not be long before they start talking about baseball (during the season which lasts most of the year) or American football between October and February. To a lesser degree basketball is discussed, but apart from the World Cup, nobody ever discusses football. The Alex Rodriguez affair was the main news on tv.
thats the thing though down south like florida it isnt as big yet as up north so you prob dont witness it much for yourself. The most activity is still up the north but its growing all over the USA. So may be more people playing baseball down there but overall football has now taken over which shows the mentality is changing massively.

On ESPN yesterday in the US they discussed the World Cup and concluded that they would have got further in the competition if they hadn't had to play Belgium. They thought it was unfair that the team that came second in the group should play a team that came first. They thought that the team that came second should play another team which came second as this would make have made the game more entertaining (as they do in baseball in the play offs). These were so-called experts. They then went on to discuss whether or not the MLS would become more popular and concluded that Team US was the only important team, and that they would need to improve and either win in 2018 or 2022.
