            and now for another "RIGHTSORT"

The veteran centre-backs have been targeted by Harry Redknapp, who is looking for proven Premier League calibre this summer following his side's return to the top flight

By Wayne Veysey ** Chief Correspondent

QPR are close to completing a double swoop for Rio Ferdinand and Brede Hangeland, Goal understands.

The veteran centre-backs are in advanced talks to join the newly promoted Premier League club following their departures earlier this summer from Manchester United and Fulham respectively.

            MAN UTD LATEST
7/4 QPR are 7/4 with bet365 to be relegated next seasonFerdinand, 35, who has been working as a BBC pundit in Brazil, is prepared to reject more lucrative offers from overseas to be reunited with Harry Redknapp, who handed him his West Ham debut as a 17-year-old.

The former England international has said he is keen to carry on playing at the top level despite the end of his trophy-laden 12-year spell at United.

Ferdinand has had his own personal trainer with him in Brazil to keep fit and is confident he can make a significant contribution to a QPR team that shipped so many goals during their last season in the top flight.

Hangeland, 33, could make the short move across west London after QPR indicated they will meet his £50,000-a-week salary demands.

West Ham are also closely monitoring the availability of the Norway international, who went public earlier this month with his anger at the manner in which his six-and-a-half year spell at Craven Cottage ended.

Hangeland accused Fulham of sacking him via email, claiming he was "disappointed beyond words" to be told of such "sad news" in this way.

However, the west London outfit insisted "personal protocol was followed" and the player "was notified in the right way".

Hangeland is believed to be keen to remain in London and not uproot his family from his home in the capital.

He could now follow former Fulham players Bobby Zamora, Andy Johnson and Aaron Hughes in making the short journey from Craven Cottage to Loftus Road.

Redknapp wants players of proven Premier League calibre as he reshapes his squad following their return to the top flight.

my day just gets better - what great news

proven goalscorer in the PL - just what we need

already thinking about him and Charlie playing together - great combo

no doubt the anti "zimmer frame brigade" will be dreading such a player

                    Defoe and Austin.

Great stuff - Defoe is what, 31, and still scored goals for Spurs before moving to the MLS where he has been the best player in the entire league by a country mile.

He's on a 5 year deal over there on mega bucks. Can't see him coming back.

defoe - good player... but on £90k and having just moved for £6m, would not be cheap. would he sign a relegation clause to go down to championship money? doesn't sound like good business.

                          hangeland - £50k? no way

Don't go grocery shopping on an empty stomach. Seems like we keep doing that during these transfer windows in the Prem.

If we get Rio and Defoe, so be it, but no more past-their-prime cash grabbing players, please.
