Exactly plus what's hit home is that we have continuously bombarded by the media that the prem is supposedly the best league in the world due to attracting the best players but can't get out of a group that has Uruguay with no real stars apart from say two one of whom appeared hobbling for most of the game, Italy whose league is continuously derided as up their with the championship & whose talisman is about 80 & GK was injured a day before plus Costa Rica who are topping the group and if we had played them first would have shown us less respect than the other two and likely to have turned us over 4-0.
Now the excuse is it would have been easier in a different group, it's not **"+in pick&mix, these players are on £150k p/w.
Nothing good has come out of this tournament apart from it was slightly funny about Gerrard.

The premiership is the best/toughest league in the world, problem is the amount of foreigners in it..... we got knocked out buy a player who is arguably the best player in the prem and not to forget Balotelli who scored the winner for Italy, who also played at one of the best clubs in the prem and is looking like he's on is way back to the prem... the sooner we develop our ENGLISH youth and get them playing in the premiership instead of being left out in the cold, the sooner we'll start winning tournaments.

Totally agree mate but will never happen as the premier league is too big
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

how is it a point less statement? My point, since you obviously missed it, is that England are going home early because of the luck of the draw. England are not world champions material but at the same time they are not San Marino and therefore there is no need to overreact about an out come you all new was coming.

I actually think performance wise we did ok, barring some individual mistakes which cost us. Both games were fairly close and could have gone either way.

I say keep Roy. No one expected much, lets show some continuity at least until the Euros.

Not sure about youth team, some massive clubs in the prem with youth team set ups much much more advanced than most other countries competing in the World Cup.
If specific blame, I think it's not foreign signings but the big clubs having English players that are rubber stamped to play for them and it's clear they will never make it at international level, meaning they will never do a Gaza, linekar at a World Cup.
Players like Rio, Lamps, Gerrard, JT, Scholes, Carragher, Nevilles were for years played week in week out at club level and automatically put in the England team knowing they would never win us a tournament. Why was lamps taken to Brazil...
The calls made are that Cole & JT should have gone. This mentality has nothing to with influx of foreign players into the prem ruining matters but our own who aren't fringe premiership players but often the most paid, Rooney is paid more than any of the premiership foreign stars and I would guess JT is the best paid centre back in the prem.
My view is we should of prepared for this World Cup at least two years ago at the Euros rather than in Miami.

Call me unpatriotic but I'm really not too fussed that we are out. Of course I would have loved to have progressed and I was cheering us on, but I am club over country all day long. I didn't celebrate Rooney's equaliser vs Uruguay anything like a QPR goal.

I think it's probably down to the fact that in my living memory (2002 World Cup I was 11 so that onwards really) we have just been a massive let down and represented by players I can't stand, ala Cole, Terry, Rio etc. Just don't have much love for our national team at all.

Summed it up for me before the Uruguay game when the camera panned across the team during the national anthem and Joe Hart was the only player singing it with any pride. Embarrassing.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

all comes down to coaching, or the lack of it in Englands case.

we could kick all the foreigners out the league and we still wouldnt progress if the level of coaching in this country stayed the same

For me I boils down to the obsession of using English players from the top clubs only. If was refreshing to see Southampton have a couple of players called up but when it came to the crunch they weren't really used despite their consistency throughout the domestic season, instead Roy went for the household names and now it's over.
It's got nothing to do with coaching or foreigners but simply a lack of balls to do what right by the manager.

Exactly that Matty, love being English but if I am honest didn't even cheer the equaliser as not fussed about international football, and probably wont even watch Tuesdays game as at the same time the other game has more to play for.

Very disappointed with England. First World Cup in my memory when there has been no slinging of plastic chairs.poor show England.

The problem is not to do with players or managers. It is almost totally down to the FA.

For at least 15 years people have been calling for a totally new approach to coaching kids, especially in the earliest stages of development. We concentrate on the wrong things. Here is a link from 2007

The FUTSAL method works. The ball is smaller and heavier and doesn't bounce. You learn to play anywhere - sand, concrete, whatever. The emphasis is on controlling the ball and passing on the deck. No competitive 11 vs 11, no team tactics, no yelling dads (and mums).

Trevor Brooking's job was to impliment this approach below the age of 14. He failed utterly.

Also, for far too long we've prioritising the wrong type of kid when the time comes to leave the academy and start a pro career. Our whole mindset has to change. For England there should be central contracts which lay down the amount of games a player can play for his club in seasons prior to a major competition. We always look shot away at this time of year.

The main issue with the EPL is the dominance of club over country. That needs to change. Central contracts would help. The FA have the money.
