He was critical that we signed kids from N Ireland and Wales when him and Dennis Wise were overlooked. Also gave the impression QPR were a small club or a stepping stone this was a time when we had the likes of Sinton and Bardsley in the England squad

Ah right, cheers. Hopefully with the new vision and new stadium we can attract the best of the best and hopefully mend burnt bridges with our history. Would love to see him back with QPR in some capacity. He was born in the area of QPR heartland and hopefully he will feel we are on the right path as a club with achievable high ambitions.

I read 'Sir Les' his autobiog, can't remember him slagging us off at all. In fact, whenever Ive seen him on TV he always talks glowingly about us.

Top player and quite possibly a top coach. Knows the club and Manager inside out, bring him in.

To be fair though that is exactly what we were at the time. Thompson was Chairman and he was always going to disband the side once high offers came along, just as we did in 75/76, although a lot of that was an age factor in 76/77. We have never been a massive club and we did get a lot of players from Ireland, so he isn't exactly slating us just being truthful.

This won't be popular but imo les seems to care very little about QPR and i remember how desperate he was to leave when he did.

But if he can do a job on our attacking, i'd be happy.
He wasn't desperate to leave at all. In fact, he stayed another season, turning down offers from Arsenal and Liverpool (that Thompson accepted) out of loyalty for Wilkins in the summer of 1994.

It was only after a close season trip to Barbados in 1995 that Wilkins said to Les that it was about time he moved on and tested himself.

We didn't sell anyone of the 75/76 side due to high offers did we? Gregory turned down multiple offers for Francis, Parkes, Bowles, Thomas and Givens. All of them remained but unfortunately suffered either career threatening injuries (Francis' back and knees, Stan's broken leg and Don Masson's achilles) or got old together as you've said (Webb, McLintock and Hollins).

Problem was, the replacements - the likes of Ron Abbott, Peter Eastoe, the evergreen Micky Leach, John Beck etc., were nowhere near that standard. The sales came after that UEFA run - Thomas and Givens first out of the door for considerably less than what we could have received if we'd sold them in the summer of 76.

Always liked Les but some fans think there are endless coaching roles as a kind of retirement home for popular ex-players. Clint and Derry would already be on the staff if some had their way, while Gregory and Waddock wd prob still be knocking around too. We have already got a whole raft of old lags inc Joe Jordan who was a decent striker in his day. Some of the best coaches were very average players. Mourinho wasn't even a player. I stand to be corrected but I have never heard Les come out with interesting new approaches to coaching etc. Sure he is fairly articulate and well turned out, but as McClaren's departure surely showed, what we need is someone with tactical and technical skills. Does Les add much (other than another big salary)? Yet to be convinced, tho as I say maybe he has more about him than I have previously noticed.

I beg to differ. I saw him on Goals on Sunday. Made Wally Downes look like Mastermind.

if he gets us scoring more goals, then he's a good coach

if not, we don't need him

Apart from Adebayour (who always has a good spell followed by complete dross) Spurs didn't exactly have strikers that put fear into the hearts of defenders last season, so I doubt Ferdinand had any impact at all. We should look elsewhere for proven coaches and proven players.

                              We are a small club.

Southampton have 3 players at the World Cup and they are a small club.

                              Your argument is baseless.

My argument is that we shouldn't blindly look up to players and call for them to come "home" in some romantic notion, when they are just ex-employees.
