"Mr Rich" prefers to sign good young players, not 35 year old players who are way past their best. I prefer the club to build a squad for now and the future, rather than fill it with ageing has-beens.

Still, each to their own. We clearly have different ideas on how the club should go forward, and as I've said, I agree with Joey Barton's view on how the club should proceed.

        Happy now?
Its not about keeping me happy buddy I just think you have planted your flag in the sand and totally ignored what he could bring simply because you assume he is not fit enough and your missing or choosing to ignore the point

He could sign and he may not kick a ball for us not because of his back but because of another injury equally we could go out and get Ince or Chaulker (who many are pushing and I personally would like both) none who we are aware are carrying injuries and they could not kick a ball for us because they could do their back. An example of this is Richard Ord signed and we got 10mins out of him

The point is you cannot assume anything what we need to do is our homework and weigh up the risk; if the risk is too much we don't do the deal simple but lets not write of every player over 30 calling them injury prone, past it, mercenary etc etc just because we have had our fingers burnt over 12months ago due to us doing a lack of due diligence on signings

Holliet is an example young TICK, hungry TICK, potential TICK resale value TICK however on the counter is he injured a lot Yes; has him ticking all the previous that most fans are in tears about with every player made him a decent signing the answer is no as he has flattered to deceive more often then not

we may as well re-animate bobby moore and in between matches we could chuck him in the freezer to stop him from ageing again and pay him 100k per week.

Rio Ferdinand has delivered a fascinating insight into how he stays in shape ahead of pre-season. The Manchester United centre-back, who will be a key part of the side that attempts to defend the title next season, has his own gruelling training regime to stay trim.

The United manager is concerned that Ferdinand’s club fitness regime following a history of back and groin trouble could be compromised on international duty

But the thing is Westie, he's over 35, not just over 30. The evidence shows he's managed 42/76 prem games over the last two years, and his back injury has been well documented. How do you risk assess Ferdinand?

We are about to enter probably the toughest league in world football with the possibility of going in with two 35 and one 34 year old CBs. Age wise, it's unbalanced, and what if we lose Ned at any time? If we sign a younger player I believe we reduce the risk.

For the record, I don't believe Dunne and possibly Hill should have been retained.

Saw similar stuff from Owen Hargreaves a few years back, whatever happened to him?

I don't disagree with you Rich if we were signing him as the long term answer I would be as concerned as you as he's not the long term solution but for a season to steer us through choppy waters I think it makes sense. Cardiff went up got Chaulker (who ticks the boxes mentioned before) and went down just as signing old players is not the answer getting a load of kids is not either.

The answer to me (and not assuming im right) is to get the right balance and blend in the team so it compliments each other and for me I would want my battle hardened experienced players at the back (not all the back four but defo one of them) and the energetic fearless youngsters in the middle and up top

With regards risk well that applies to any player of any age Ryan Giggs is 40 and has not suffered any injuries I can recall since he hit his thirties where as Jack Wiltshire is a puppy but is always injured and if you get five games in a row out of him your doing well and that's why I do not associate age to injuries. There will be plenty players in our current squad who are carrying constant injuries but we don't know about it and they just get on with it i.e. Hoillet clearly has prob with hamstrings and Austin clearly had shoulder injury prior to us knowing the difference is Rio is high profile so we know everything about him dare I say it we prob have players in our squad carrying back injuries

Also agree with you about Dunne and Hill however I would have kept Hill as backup but I personally don't think we can carry both especially if someone like Rio does sign hence why I would take Rio plus one other Chaulker would be ideal

                    • Rio is ols news, he has been a fantastic player but he is not the future for us. We have to find younger hungrier players.

Had some shocking injuries in his late twenties that he never recovered from.

United spent big money on him when he was young-ish. Just goes to show all transfers come with a risk factor.
