It's not about his ability, nor is it about his attitude, although there's plenty of stuff about that on his Wikipedia page, it's about him missing 34 prem games over the last two seasons. This can't have been purely down to Moyes not liking him as a player.

I think this back problem he has is serious and may have been one of the reasons why Man Utd let him go.

Yeah you can't exactly blame Moyes for his injuries.... and it'll probably get worse with age and playing at a high level. Best to dodge this one IMO.

If people want him here as a good influence in the dressing room and to pass down his footballing wisdom there's got to be a cheaper way.... maybe the players and rio could all get together once a week for a 'Rio team bonding sessions' and 'Rios footballing tricks of the trade sessions'

United let him go as he in my view is no longer good enough for a teams whos aspirations are not to just finish in top four but win the league and when in it the champions league win that too our aspirations are somewhat lower then that which makes his potential signing given his background and experience one which could be pivotal. Your right he has suffered with injuries but many players go through spells like that then come back with no ill effects Dunne was the example but there are others

One of our main problems last two seasons in the prem was the CB position with all fans pulling our hair out asking when is it going to be addressed when we continued to sign midfielder after midfielder leaving the CB position glaringly thin. When we did get people in Anton, Bosingwa, Samba etc they never solved the problem. Rio if he is fit in my view would certainly go someway to Suring up the defence for at least a season

As said before will not die in a ditch if he never signed but equally am not against it if it came off

Ok then, if we sign him, how many prem games do you think he will play? You seem convinced that he would be a good signing, but we would be signing him to play football matches not deliver team talks, so take an educated guess on how many prem games you think he'll play. You have the last couple of seasons stats to base your opinion on.

To the list of BZ AJ Park and Dyer, you could add Ferdinand if he signs. The risk is too high IMO, especially with 34 and 35 year olds currently taking up two CB slots.
Seems like he is coming to us no matter. Maybe he should try a healer..

How many did Dunne play last season on the back of a worse injury record/season then Rio??

How many games has Faurlin played in comparison to Rio last three years with him being 10 years younger then him??

He has a special training programme given his condition which has got him through reasonably successfully at Man Utd last few years people like John Walk, Ledley King and Paul McGrath (Richard Dunne towards the end of last season) don't even train they just play there that good

Its about managing the situation we wont do anything in the cups if he only played league games and we got 25 out of him and dropped Dunne and Hill in for the others he will have played over half the season

Pretty sure Ferdinand won't be the only CB brought and in any case it's a squad game. Redknapp probably thinking he will get a full season out of Dunne and Ferdinand combined and will play Ned and another next to them. Sure his contract will stipulate playing time and if we got half the games out of him it will make a big difference to our chances of staying up. Remember the influence Nelson had and Ferdinand is twice the player.

                      That's funny

Too many people got stars in their eyes and are obsessed with us signing old players like Ferdinand Cashley and Lumpalard. I don't understand why some want to turn us into a MLS style team.

We're QPR not effing Bay View retirement home.

Agreed jimmy west spot on. Notice mr rich didn't answer those clear points about dunne not playing atall the season before we signed him. Got a contract based on games played which has triggered a 2nd deal which shows the club is not stupid

Ok, you've made your point, let's go ahead and sign him. I'm fully expecting a minimum 25 games out of him based on what you've said about managing him. I'm not convinced but you seem very sure about this and his training programme. Not heard about this. I'd be interested to learn more.

                            Happy now?

                              Too right. Narrow minded.

I'm looking forward to this signing.
