I have no 'issue' with some fans not wanting Rio. I am a big fan of his but I am also unsure whether this is the right move because of his age. I will give the bloke my support but people can certainly question it. Harry isn't perfect mate, although I can clearly see you are a big fan. He has made some proper clangers of signings and he will definitely make plenty more.
Not a huge fan of Harry but you have to look at the fact that he got us promoted, no matter how he done it he got us promoted.

He didn't have enough time the season before last to keep us up so this is a huge test of his managing ability.

    • RIO was a world class defender - hill and dunne have never been in that league. Rio is not as quick and is prone to injury now but what he brings is composure of the highest level, knowledge and positioning and awareness. He also plays the ball on the fllor and these things dont change as you get older its the mobility that gets affected.
How anyone can compare boswinga to him is beyond me and a joke. MY issue with the rio signing has always been money not abillity. If we sign rio on 50 k a week happy days as far as im concerned,. My worry was always the 100 k plus that was getting banded around.
Rio next to ned is a great combo and they should compliment each other perfectly. We do need another cb because i dont think rio can play 38 games but as I said earlier as long as he can play in the crunch games then we have a hell of a valuable asset.

TO actually beat on about why Rio is better than either of those two is pathetic. They are hardly in their mid 20's or in their prime are they. The three are similar age so at a similar level of decline from their best, but the significant difference is Rio's best was infinitely better than either of them could ever have dreamed of.

Add to the fact he has class, reads the game as good as any defender in the game, composure, ability on the ball, can play from the back, will be a lot wiser to the tricks of top strikers having played against the very best far more than even Dunne due to his Champions League experience. Not to mention he's a natural leader who will have the respect of everyone around him. He will improve the games of the defenders around him by simply passing on his knowledge so that's a long term plus also.

Let's not also ignore his name and image will be lucrative for the club and the marketing team.

Hill and Dunne may be decent grafters who get stuck in, but they are leagues below Rio when it comes to ability.
I'm not saying Dunne & Hill are better or anything like that what I'm saying is we have two old experienced defenders already so I don't see the point of spending stupid wages on Ferdinand .

You can list me all his achievements in the world but it means nothing to QPR as you're talking about things that happened years ago or whilst playing with much better players than he will at QPR. have you not learnt anything from the last time we did this with players coming from much bigger clubs on stupid wages and treating our club like a retirement home

IMO he has been carried by Vidic the last couple of years and has looked way past his best especially next to inferior defenders like Evans and so god knows what he will be like with our defenders next to him.

It might turn out ok but don't start moaning in 12 months time if we go down and start bleating about old players after one last pay day like you all did 12 months ago !!

          • clearly lots of us have differing opinions regarding Rio and we'll probably have to agree to disagree.

however, what's not different is that we are Rangers fans and should all want the same thing, so let's give new players a chance before we crucify them and see how things pan out.

I'll be delighted if Rio joins, based on his previous but I'll be at the front of the queue if he doesn't preform for us, which is all that matters.

I didnt list any of Rio's achievements!!

What i highlighted was his abilities as a footballer and the majority such as class, composure, ability on the ball and the way he reads the game etc etc etc won't be affected by him being a bit older. Pace takes a hit of course, and he may be prone to more injuriesa as he gets older, but thats the same as all players. Dunne and Hiull wont play 38 games either.

I personally said Hill shouldnt have beeen given another contract as he is not good enough for the prem. Rio certainly is, so which is the least logical contract offer.....?

                • the Mail says he is going to be on less than a third of his current 200k a week and imo that is too much for a club like QPR to pay a 35 year old CB.

Also, when, if ever, did QPR sign a player from Man Utd who was a success at Loftus Road. McCreary, Hill, Culkin, Lee, Macheda, Fabio all were below par or flops at QPR.

                  • Why did you leave poor Park out of that list?

Yep that's what I said! He is not experienced enough to lead a CB pairing all season, same goes for Caulker, simple as that

Like I said it could be a decent signing but I have my doubts
Why is his only outlet Barton! Why not Phillips? Faurlin? Or whoever else we sign? Your arguments really are quite pathetic

We will be fighting relegation not challenging for anything which is what Ferdinand has done the last 6 years
The more I read you just get better!! What can he bring that Hill and Dunne can't? Emm about 10years of playing for pretty much the biggest club in the world, god knows how many champions league apps, god knows how many England caps, god knows how many Prem apps, titles, cups, need I say more? Now Clint and Dunne have been immense for us but rio is on a different planet to these too. Hill has spent 90% of his career in the lower leagues! Rio the complete opposite, Jesus Christ
