  • This may be a very clever move by Harry. Even if Rio don't play the full season he will be in charge of the defense on the training pitch full time giving out his vast experience.
He has the makings of a future gaffa too. Welcome to LR Rio !

Think 30games is a very high target which most other players in the squad, even younger ones, wont attain given how managers rotate etc now as your more or less asking him to be an ever present on that figure. I think realistic target would be 25 games if we get that we have had our monies worth

      • If we were going to get an elder CB who is experienced much rather it is Rio over Hangerland or Ollson. Williams or Chaulker had they been realistic targets would have been preference but Rio beats any other golden oldies we have been linked with

However what is clear is that he comes in with pressure on him from the off as clearly not all fans are sold which is fair enough. Wonder if he chatted to his brother about us and what the fans can be like!!!!!!!!!

Has Anton actually left or is he on loan could we still end up with a Ferdinand pairing next season???

        • For roughly the same money we off load Shaun wright Phillips and bring in rio Ferdinand. Happy with that

will be lucky to get 15/20 matches out of this carthorse.
Am totally gutted by this signing.
expecting more golden oldies to follow.
Next up, come on down peter crouch.
Basically, what you are saying is that a footballer should end his career at the age of 32 tops because then he is just useless. I bet if Ryan Giggs said 2 years ago he was gonna join us, you would have complained

            • Class signing. He's also a bit of a Rangers fan too...... so he's not going to mug us off like eyebrow man and co.

              • he may be past his best and has had injuries but his know how, presence, organisation and motivational skills make him a top signing.

No, I don't want him playing every week, think he's struggle but then again I don't want Dunne playing every week either. Could see them sharing 1 slot over the season.

Dunne wasn't supposed to play every game last season but when Nedum he ended up playing more than planned, culminating in the MOM performance at Wembley.

We've made some bad signings over the last few years - THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM

Give the man a chance, he's win at least 6 premier league titles, champions league, etc, etc, he can't be a mug can he? (even past his peak)

                • Rio Ferdinand has agreed a deal to sign for newly promoted Queens Park Rangers. The 35-year-old has been persuaded to take a massive drop in wages after hearing Harry Redknapp’s plans for how he can help the London club on their return to the Premier League.

Looks like he is joining us. Hope he proves doubters wrong including me. 1/3 of his current £200,00 a week is around £67,000 (maybe less).

to be fair this might sound stupid but im not overly bothered if he plays 30 games - if we manage him properley and we can get him playing 20 + games this year where he can play to the best of his ability then we are laughing. Play him in the games that matter the ones we need to keep clean sheets and get points. Play him against the likes of hull, palace ect and when we go city, scum, liverpool rest him. let him recover.
This deal is about experience and time management. Dont sign him expect him to play 38 prem games and a cup run. Expect him to come in be a leader on and off the pitch but play in our important games which aint scum and liverpool its burnley and leicester

Reserves are on that at a lot of clubs & don't play 10 games.

I agree, if he plays half the games well and influences the squad in a positive way (which I'm sure he will) then he's going to be a great asset

Harry talks about the right types - Rio is one of them!

Those clubs are not newly promoted nor have they had a chairman saying for the last 12 months they have learnt their lesson from last time

So we sign arguably the best English centre back of the last decade who also has experience working with our manager and yet these aren't lessons learned? It s ludicrous how fans of this club have little respect for our manager's decision making after he successfully guided the team to the premier league at the first time of asking despite numerous injuries and previously embarrassing players who have no respect for the club. But no, let us build a team of 15-20 year olds because they are young and hungry

i'd be really surprised if he was ever really on £200k a week at man utd... it was rumoured to be £120k about 2 years ago, and he supposedly took a £20-30k pay cut when his contract was renewed. i really hope that we're not paying more than £40k a week (and i really want us to be paying less than that).
