I don't hold a grudge because he didn't come to us last year, it's simply that I don't think he's that good to warrant the fee they'd expect. His poor season and subsequent lack of confidence i would imagine, only compounds that further.

I know you dont mate - just a few seem to p****** more because he chose them over us which I think is a joke when you look at his decision logically. I know your opinion is based on how he fared last year.

My worry is Austin might have a season like hooper as sometimes strikers/players who havent played in the prem take time to adapt. Even drogba all them years ago I thought he was pony the first year but then got a season under his belt and was a different player. Could say the same about giroud at arsenal too.

I DO have a problem with Hooper. Bloke thinks he's the Billy big balls... Too good for us last yr as he played us like a fiddle, too good for Norwich this year even tho he helped them get relegated.

The right sort!!! He choose Norwich who were prem league and offered him less money than us in the world cup year. How is that being billy big balls. He then got frozen out of the team and didnt feature as often as most would expect and today qoutes from Norwich say hes commited to the club.
So that cpuld be the end of the hooper saga just dont get how peoples impressions on the bloke are so stained due to him not joining us last season.

He played 32 times last season so certainly wasn't 'frozen out'. And yeh a bloke that thinks he's too good to play for a team he helped relegate is a Billy big balls imo.

Agree totally re Austin, as I've said about Rhodes every time people say lets break the bank as he's proven... well neither are proven where it matters, in the prem. Yes they MIGHT do great, but could equally flop. The difference with Austin, is he's part of the team and group that got us up so will find his feet with t he team, whereas any striker we bring in now, is almost weighed down with additional pressure because we're almost saying they are coming in to score the goals to help keep us up..... That adds more pressure, and in the case of Hooper, he's already failed with such expectation with an established prem side so not what we need imo.

I appreciate this is a forum and everyone is entitled to their opinions but have to say I think its laughable atm that people are saying players of the ability of williams, townsend or even hooper for that matter are below us or wouldnt want them at our club.

Williams is the Swansea captain aged 29 and played last 3 seasons in very decent mid table team.
Townsend was class at us then established himself in a top 5 team. Called up to the England squad and was then hailed as one of our brightest rising young stars until he got injured. but he's too 1 dimensional now apparently.
Hooper 1 year ago most of us wanted him. Didnt do amazing in the prem but also didnt do to bad. To make the step up from scots prem to english prem is massive. Last season prob done him the world of good.

All british good ages and would improve us tremendouslyif added to core the players we have now.

I think we need to remember who we are and where we are at. Most of the bottom half prem teams would want these players. Heard lots of people saying we want to build sensibly with British based players of a good age ect but some seem to think we are some elite team and these players arent good enough and I find it a joke tbh.

Not sure Hooper thought he was too good for us last season and now thinks he's too good Norwich. Just think the lad wants to play premiership football! IMO he's just had a $hit season and should stay with Norwich to help them get back up, but I'm not a Norwich fan and couldn't care less so if he wants to jump ship and join us I'd be happy.

Cheers Yousef - some of the expectations are ludicrous in my eyes. Just be nice to sit back and when we see players like williams and townsend linked with us we actually think about how far we have come as club.

Not a fan of Hooper (even before we wanted him) scoring goals for fun at Celtic is NOT the same as the prem or even championship, That`s him explained.
Townsend, I just don`t want us to go down the same road as 2 seasons ago. He is undoubtedly a quality player but the reason for my not wanting him is I try to see the bigger picture, I see him as a bit of a luxury player and one that may not take very long to disrupt the team spirit we now have at the club.
He IS one dimensional and very very greedy, that was all well and good when we had him on loan playing in the awful side we had, but ask yourself how long will it take for Austin, Hoillett, Phillips, Niko, Bobby or whoever to stop making forward runs because Townsend has the ball and has another shot that flys over the bar-wide? How long for the crowd to get on his back? Just look at Hoilett, he played a massive part in winning the 2 biggest games for years and still most fans want rid, What else does he need to do?
IMO he really could be worse for the side than monobrow and others.
I think the club has a massive chance to get things right this time round, and for me that would be a couple of prem experienced players .ie Lampard/Lescott. and then I would dip into the championship and cherrypick the best it has to offer with young hungry players that wouldn`t cost the earth and would love to play for us in the prem.
I certainly havn`t turned my nose up at Townsend/Hooper (quite the opposite think we should go for lesser players with more to prove) I don`t believe they are the right sort and we all know what happens then.

Thats what it feels like on here sometimes mate...Even the thread just above yours which is saying dont want to go down that route again with townsend makes me laugh out loud. What did he ever do when he was at QPR to ever make any of us question his commitment or to show he would disrupt team spirit. A young lad with huge potential who prob wont come to us anyway but now to some not good enough to wear the qpr shirt lol. Plus beiing critisized because hes got the ability to go past a player and actually do something with the ball.
Oh well maybe we have missed something mate and they know something we dont. We must all of a sudden have the pulling power of city, scum and madrid and the likes of townsend can waste their careers at the little clubs like spurs and everton
